Omar Vizquel expressed a willingness to play for the Red Sox, should the opportunity for a trade arise at some point this season, writes John Tomase of the Boston Herald.
In the piece, Tomasse says that Vizquel "wishes the Red Sox made a play for him when they had a chance." Vizquel said the Red Sox had not called. Tomasse says the Red Sox did inquire about Vizquel earlier this year, but that the Rangers are not interested in dealing the veteran shortstop.

Just what Boston needs.. Give up something for Vizguel, then Lowrie comes off of the DL and they try and sneak Green past waivers and he is claimed since he is out of options and they lose him, then stuck with both Lugo AND Vizguel, while losing Green, who can at least hit if Lowrie has a problem later on with his wrist.. How bad can it get?
Sox FO needs to cut all ties with Lugo now regardless of whether or not they trade for anybody, they have multiple AAAA SS retreads in Gil Velazquez, Angel Chavez and Ivan Ochoa who all have some MLB experience and can field decently and not hit, just like Vizquel. No sense in giving anything up for a 42 year old SS.

"Sox FO needs to cut all ties with Lugo now regardless of whether or not they trade for anybody, ....."
Yup. He's unfortunately become dead weight as a player and he's also taking a roster spot that will be needed soon. Eating salary and cutting their losses (literally) would make sense for the Sox here.
I still think Boston needs to shop for a SS that can hit (for DH insurance), play some defense and spell Lowell at 3B. One player to patch two+ holes. Knock knock who's there? Hopefully the Cleveland Indians...either Peralta or DeRosa.

It is clearly apparent that Theo Epstein, and not John Tomasse, is the general manager of the Boston Red Sox. Thank goodness....
And, please, not Peralta...

Lock,
Hardy makes the most sense from what you said but the Sox would have to give up some good pieces of the minor league players to obtain him.
