« Roy Halladay Rumors: Tuesday | Main | Bay, Red Sox To Begin Negotiations »
The 2009 All-Star Game is about to get underway at the new Busch Stadium in St. Louis. We're not expecting a whole lot of rumors during play, but an open thread to discuss the game and/or trade possibilities seems fitting.

Classy Cards fans boo Ted Lilly. Real mature...

Hoping for an NL victory, though I can see K-rod pulling a Wagner.
Posted by: CitizenSnips | July 14, 2009 at 07:17 PM
Let's go NL! I'm predicting a pickoff for Molina...

I can't believe it's starting at 8:42.
"Hoping for an NL victory, though I can see K-rod pulling a Wagner."
K-Rod isn't Billy. He's closed big games. In fact, he cleaned up Putz's mess in the 2007 game.

this game better not suck.
Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 07:20 PM
Seems like in the last few years I've said "wow, look at that NL lineup and that pitching", but then they still end up falling at the feet of the AL.
Go AL!
Posted by: RedSoxFreak85 | July 14, 2009 at 07:20 PM
oh, and buehrle got a nice round of applause, lol.
Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 07:21 PM
"Classy Cards fans boo Ted Lilly. Real mature..."
Oh, get over it. Every single Sox player got booed last year, all the Dodgers the year before that and so on and so forth. It happens every year.

Is it possilbe for Halladay to help/hurt his trade value based upon an all-star performance?
Posted by: London Andrew | July 14, 2009 at 07:22 PM
Perfect game by the NL staff...
Seriously though, I think that the NL has a better shot this year than in the last few years due to the dominance of the pitching. I think we'll see a tight game (4-3 maybe?), but a lot of hits.
Posted by: richard.cordrey | July 14, 2009 at 07:22 PM
"Is it possilbe for Halladay to help/hurt his trade value based upon an all-star performance?"
i would say no. it would only further the legend that is halladay.
Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 07:23 PM
Does anybody see any trades coming out of the all-star break.... I remember Shannon Stewart getting traded to the Twins and the Twins taking off.... any thing similar this year?
whats longer? Tiny Tim's hair? or his leash tonight?

Off topic... but is anyone else having problems viewing the site in Safari? All of a sudden it goes to an RSS-like version of the page. If I click on a topic to view the whole thing with comments, I get a Typepad error. The site is fine in Firefox.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
stellar: I had that problem just now on Chrome, I just refreshed and it went away.
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 07:29 PM
i've gotten it a few times in FF 3.5, but a reload here and there fixes it.
runs fine in IE, but well, u know.
Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 07:30 PM
Drew, what are the chances the Yankees make a trade for Halladay? If there's a chance, what would the package be?
Posted by: Spieg7 | July 14, 2009 at 07:30 PM
why can't they start this pregame hooplah an hour earlier? i guess i have east coast bias though, i'll probably end up watching this thing past midnight at this rate.
Posted by: kevin1013 | July 14, 2009 at 07:30 PM
I've had that problem too, guys. It's probably a TypePad maintenance issue. I'm sure they'll get it fixed soon.
Thanks for hanging out, by the way. Any questions, comments? It's going to be a relaxed night around here.

Posted by: southsidesox | July 14, 2009 at 07:31 PM
ha, yeah CitizenSnips, do you happen to remember who got the LOSS in last year's all star game by any chance?
Posted by: Baseball Nut | July 14, 2009 at 07:32 PM
Not to sound like a homer.. but why was Werth put on the roster over Kemp?
I know Werth is having a great year but was the point of having Kemp on the 5 man vote off?
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 07:32 PM
I got a feeling this is going to be one of those high scoring ASGs.
14-10 NL
Posted by: JoeinSF | July 14, 2009 at 07:32 PM
Sheryl Crow sounds really bad tonight. Like she's out of breath.

I'm a huge Cub fan like I assume you are, but please don't make silly comments like that. You know if the game was at Wrigley everyone would be booing Albert Pujols. Even if Pujols hit the game winning HR, I still wonder how many people would be cheering. We Cub fans are very passionate, but at the same time that has turned into being extremely low class at times too. I'm not going to get into the various incidents, but the most obvious example is how Bartman was basically made a villain when the real problem was Alex Gonzalez's error and then Kerry Wood crapping his pants in Game 7.

any trades to be made after sometime this week?

did i miss it or did they not introduce halladay before the game?
Posted by: celtics464 | July 14, 2009 at 07:35 PM
I live in Springfield, IL Werth is from here. If Kemp should be there over Werth, then Kinsler should be there over Inge, Pena, Cruz, and Figgins. He probably should have been there over Pedroia to begin with, and maybe Hill too.
And Sheryl Crow ALWAYS sounds bad. And washed-up singers in their late 40s shouldn't wear mini-skirts.
Posted by: cubs223425 | July 14, 2009 at 07:36 PM
NL 4 AL 6.... Hope NL wins though

You missed it. He was introduced in the bullpen.

Obama's pitch -- strike or ball? Couldn't tell from my little blurry screen here.
Posted by: Drew Silva | July 14, 2009 at 07:40 PM
god i'm glad i voted for that man. he needs to sign an executive order, letting halladay come to the sox.

Kemp is having a better season..
I dont understand what you mean.

I give the man large "props" for trotting out in a White Sox jacket. It's cheap when celebrities (and presidents) don the home town goods.

Some early thoughts:
- Albert...great to see Albert get the reception he got. He is one of the true bright spots for baseball right now...
- Sheryl Crow...put some mustard on it! Sounded like she was practicing, at least she didn't butcher it like some try to do.
- Obama...did they boo him? Did I hear that correctly? For a minute, I thought Dubya was being introduced.

Just because Obama destroyed McCain in the electoral vote doesnt mean he had a huge lead with the peoples vote.

"Kemp is having a better season..
I dont understand what you mean."
I mean Kins has outplayed them all and they don't have an actual 2B as the backup, they have SS/OF Ben Zobrist.
And Obama's a jackass. That's why they booed him.
Posted by: cubs223425 | July 14, 2009 at 07:47 PM
On the Obama booing. Keep in mind the ticket prices for this game. St. Louis can be very, very, very conservative.

"On the Obama booing. Keep in mind the ticket prices for this game. St. Louis can be very, very, very conservative."
And Obama seems to be fond of throwing billions of taxpayer money at every problem he faces.

Ouch. Ichiro was all over Lincecum.

no break at all on those pitches.
Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 07:57 PM
Bad luck for Pujols. A bad hop AND his vision was cut off by Mauer.
Aaaaaaand everyone is all over Timmy.
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 07:58 PM
Bad throw by Wright...
Error by Albert..
Inning should be over.
Posted by: 55saveslives | July 14, 2009 at 07:59 PM
Way too much pressure on the NL, especially Pujols.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 07:59 PM
timmy should have ripped a few bong hits before the game, he's all nerves. blew the cover at first.
Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 07:59 PM
NL infield is hungover as usual.
Game over, Halladay goes the distance.
Posted by: London Andrew | July 14, 2009 at 08:00 PM
Dodgerblue...
Obama beat McCain by 10 million votes.. that my friend is a but kicking ...
and as far as throwing money at problems Cubsfan... you obviously don;t have a clue about what the US might have suffered through if the money wasn't spent...
I'd take a bad recession over a depression any day of the week.
Furthermore... many of those spending programs / stimulus was supported by both parties and the business community etc... no better option was out there...
but on to baseball and to those classless Cardinal fans who like to think of themselves as the best fans in the world. The heartland of the USA and all that bs... lol..
stay classy St Louis, stay classy..
Posted by: cortez101 | July 14, 2009 at 08:00 PM
Do they pull Lincecum after just one inning?
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 08:01 PM
Pujols is having a rough week. Love It!!!!

Timmy forgot to cover the bag..
whoops!

Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 08:03 PM
Timmy's only mistake was beaning Jeter...
He fooled Mauer completely.....wright f'd up the throw.
Posted by: 55saveslives | July 14, 2009 at 08:04 PM
"Do they pull Lincecum after just one inning?"
Why would they? He didn't let up any runs... Pujols and Wright did.
Posted by: richard.cordrey | July 14, 2009 at 08:04 PM
Everyone who predicted a high-scoring game seems to be right.
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 08:04 PM
IMO Lincecum had nothing on the mound.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 08:06 PM
"timmy should have ripped a few bong hits before the game, he's all nerves. blew the cover at first."
He didn't blow the cover at first, he was there. Hamilton is too fast for that play. They showed the replay, and he wasn't going to get him.
Posted by: richard.cordrey | July 14, 2009 at 08:07 PM
are the yankees going to make an offer for halladay?
Posted by: yanks26 | July 14, 2009 at 08:07 PM

"IMO Lincecum had nothing on the mound."
Don't worry, he'll have more than enough the next time he pitches against the Dodgers... 2-0 in his starts against y'all already this year.
Posted by: richard.cordrey | July 14, 2009 at 08:08 PM
Wow. Everything is being hit hard.
Seems like the AL has some kind of handicap at this point.
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 08:08 PM
Man... the streak, I say, will continue! I won't say my Timmy joke here.
The MLB.com feed is awesome, no commericals, plus it lets you see every angle (even dugouts and $500 seats!), and what Joe/Tim say during commericals. Truly great. If you want the link ,let me know.
Ugh, RBI talk tonight. This PLUS the worthless Buck and McCaver. Ugh.
Michael Young! Nice play.

What do you mean Hanley tried to throw it at least twice..
They had him easy.

Yeah... Joe Buck is right for once. This is Longoria's helmet, after seeing the $500 seat view... it's too dark a color for a Blue Jays helmet.
Wow, I like Ken, if only for trade rumors, but he gave us nothing! Drat.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 08:14 PM
Hey Drew,
what's the record for posts in a thread?
I'll bet it'll be broken tonight!
Posted by: Baseball@Europe | July 14, 2009 at 08:15 PM
"What do you mean Hanley tried to throw it at least twice..

Don't think so pal. They showed the replay. Just because Hanley double-clutched doesn't mean that a play was possible.
Posted by: richard.cordrey | July 14, 2009 at 08:15 PM
Phillies and Yankees as Halladay front-runners?
Yankees would have to give up Joba, Montero & AJax or at least two out of those three.
Win now or later? Hmmm...now.
Posted by: InvalidUserID | July 14, 2009 at 08:16 PM
Timmy was good...
Gave up a slap hit to the best slap hitter in baseball.
Got 2 grounders that 2 Gold Glovers misplayed...

I like the announcer's viewpoint myself, aka, high homeplate.
Obama! Glad I saw his inaugration in winter. I had a ticket from my state senator, which made it all the better. Glad I supported him throughout.

The Brewers should move Braun to right next year, makes hisoffense look twice as good and you can move a good hitter into left.
Cory Hart should be traded for some pitching.
