« Roy Halladay Rumors: Tuesday | Main | Bay, Red Sox To Begin Negotiations »
The 2009 All-Star Game is about to get underway at the new Busch Stadium in St. Louis. We're not expecting a whole lot of rumors during play, but an open thread to discuss the game and/or trade possibilities seems fitting.

Can you (non A's fans) name the other active position player from Hawaii? I can.
Answer later.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 08:22 PM
Didn't guess this happening. When did Goodell say they werte playing the Pro Bowl in St. Louis?
We got a game.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 08:24 PM
Note to self..
dont trade Halladay to the NL.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 08:25 PM
woot woot! buehrle in the pen!
Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 08:25 PM
You have to hope this doesn't affect Doc later this month. He doesn't seem the type, at all, but, eh.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 08:26 PM
NL NL!!
Posted by: 55saveslives | July 14, 2009 at 08:26 PM
425? mmh over 100 already...
@joe: nah, Dunn's expensive and not worth the asking price. Trade for A-Gon. More expensive, but a long-term fix.

"Note to self..

haha, nice.
Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 08:27 PM
and the Flyin Hawaiian scores!!! Is the price on Halladay going down, LOL?!?!?!?
Posted by: philsWSchamps | July 14, 2009 at 08:27 PM
Technical difficulties in Joe's mike with the Joe Maddon interview? Seems like it, or they're just setting up for it now, which I know is done between innings.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 08:28 PM
Halladay's trade value is plummeting.
Posted by: Little Bear | July 14, 2009 at 08:28 PM
They don't start any of the pregame stuff until 8, it's a hitter's game, and it's gonna last 'til midnight+.
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 08:29 PM
ryan franklin coming in???
Why no starter??? Damn charlie has his moments where he lapses into the old Uncle Chollie. here's one of them.
Posted by: philsWSchamps | July 14, 2009 at 08:30 PM
This will be fun again when they drop the WS advantage..
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 08:30 PM
Too bad it wont be like that in Anaheim.. ehh
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 08:31 PM
It was a Doc Halladay interview, but, I was right.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 08:31 PM
If the booth collapsed with those three clowns in it, it would've made my night! Not a one of them has any sense/
Posted by: GoBraves | July 14, 2009 at 08:31 PM
mauer catching buehrle...talk about awkward.
Posted by: part-time pariah | July 14, 2009 at 08:37 PM
Kemp is having a better season..
Not really.... Kemp hits for higher average.. Werth hits for more power- otherwise they're having pretty similar years/
Posted by: JoeinSF | July 14, 2009 at 08:39 PM
I remember Martin catching Peavy in SF, that was a bit odd.
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 08:41 PM

Look up some stats and then come back say that.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 08:42 PM
Pena: -2.4 UZR
Youk: 3.0 UZR
Teix: -1.8 UZR
A-Gon: 2.6 UZR
I agree with Youk, and A-Gon, sort of... really, Joe and Tim. Haren should have started for the NL. Period.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 08:43 PM
UBYankee
I agree.
If Haren can keep doing what hes doing he should win the Cy Young..
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 08:46 PM
Any idea what song is being played at Busch right now? Seems odd for baseball, personally.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 08:47 PM
A little off-topic, but I wonder what the chances are that MLBTR gets a forum...
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 08:50 PM
Answer to earlier trivia question: It's why I said no A's fans could answer. It's the everyday Oakland backstop, Kurt Suzuki.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 08:54 PM
Crawford vs. Molina, this is gonna be good.
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 08:56 PM
is C-Bill's fastball always around 89?
Posted by: Baseball@Europe | July 14, 2009 at 09:00 PM
Itchiro? Heh, that's what he is for Bills. I remember that 6 SB game. Wilson used cocaine!

6.53 this year for Crawford. Amazing... my word.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 09:04 PM
That a boy Pujols.
"is C-Bill's fastball always around 89?
Posted by: Baseball@Europe | July 14, 2009 at 09:00 PM"
Yeah sometimes he will get up to 95-96 but its straight and usually out of the zone.
He throws a lot of tailing fastballs at 90, it works for him.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 09:07 PM
Mauer claims it's a lot easier to catch Zach (Duh!) than hit him, and they're mentioned the Futures game, how they're 2-0 together. When was this?
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 09:08 PM
Put B-Mac in if you wanna win!
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 09:10 PM
I'm impressed by Edwin Jackson, let's check some stuff out.
BABIP: .254, career low, bad new for him.
FIP: 3.45, nearly a run over his ERA.
ERA+: 179, very good.
Hey, I'm getting a clean version of the FOX all-star music right now. Neat-o.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 09:13 PM
"Mauer claims it's a lot easier to catch Zach (Duh!) than hit him, and they're mentioned the Futures game, how they're 2-0 together. When was this?"
Wild guess would be 2002-2003, since it would've had to have been before either guy was in the bigs.
Posted by: melonis rex | July 14, 2009 at 09:15 PM
It's all about the Roosevelt's baybay!
Posted by: zaphrodesiac | July 14, 2009 at 09:18 PM
Thanks, melonis. This is interesting.
Joe Buck is making me hungry, he's eating a chicken burrito, I believe. Yum. Wonder if it's from Taco Bell, since they sponsor FOX/MLB?
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 09:20 PM
^Stupid commercial
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 09:20 PM
King Felix has some nasty movement on his fastball.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 09:22 PM
Think we have extra innings again this year? I'm thinking so. It would be only the second time in the game's history, the other two years being '66 and '67.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 09:25 PM
By that, I mean 2 consecutive years with the ASG going into extras. There have been 10 total extra inning ASG, including the Milwaukee debacle.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 09:28 PM
The only way I see anyone else scoring is on a solo HR.

Ey, did anyone else hear that MLB extra innings is free from the 16th to the 22nd or something like that? I'm sick of MLB.TV, it isn't good at all.
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 09:30 PM
yeah, unbiased yankee, there are 3 active position players shane victorino, Kila Ka'aihue on the royals and the other player on the a's but i don't want to ruin the annswer

(:
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 09:35 PM
So glad I lost Joe and Tim on the MLB.com player. Now it's only sounds of the park, which is how EVERY broadcast should be, plus a score bar/box at the top of the screen, personally.
Ain't that Grand? Way to go, Curtis!

Heath Bell FTL!
Posted by: DodgersLBC | July 14, 2009 at 09:47 PM

AL takes the lead! Yippee.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 09:48 PM
Lets tack on more, AL.

"Can Albert Pujols rise to the occasion in front of the home crowd?"
No, he can not and did not.
Posted by: studio179 | July 14, 2009 at 09:52 PM
2 really good curve balls and then challenge him?
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 09:53 PM
why bell or billingsly when so many better pithchers are available?!?
Posted by: kevin1013 | July 14, 2009 at 09:55 PM
Is anyone else SICK of this damn Gatorade song? Whooo B-Mac on the attack!
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 09:55 PM
Man, this would be perfect timing for my Lincecum joke. WARNING: Not appropriate for all ages.
You know, wherever Timmy pitches, he rises to the occasion, even if he doesn't do well. He has to live up to his name, after all.
Good work, studio. I always need a good laugh.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 09:56 PM
Damn!
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 09:56 PM

orange and black.

These are some big hacks by Howard; y'all know what he's thinking.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 10:04 PM
I don't think I have ever pulled for Howard before, but please come through.
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 10:04 PM
Howard's probably going to strike out.
Posted by: DodgersLBC | July 14, 2009 at 10:05 PM
Sh!t.
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 10:07 PM
I don't understand at all why Manuel put Howard in that situation. You know that with Hudson on first, you'll have a decent shot at him taking second, making the winning run a simple base hit away.
I think he should have gone with a better contact hitter in that situation. If the NL were down by 3 or more, then okay bring in Howard... but down a run with the winning run on the basepads? NO.
Posted by: DodgersLBC | July 14, 2009 at 10:09 PM
Dead on. I thought as soon he had that first swing, he's trying to do too much. When that happens, no matter your level, you will most likely strike out. Tonight is no exception.
Rivera for the 9th? Who else? Andrew Bailey? Wake? Haha, no.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 10:10 PM
DodgersLBC,
Manuel is gonna look out for his own, I guess he kinda screwed Howard by doing so.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 10:11 PM
That was a sick change by K-Rod. Crawford usually doesn't look that ugly swining.
Oh, and nice catch by Werth.
Posted by: B3NG4L | July 14, 2009 at 10:12 PM
Yuck, I hate beer commercials.
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 10:13 PM
I'd bring in Rivera for the 9th. Despite stats or age or whatever, Rivera is the guy you want on the mound in THIS situation, period.
Posted by: DodgersLBC | July 14, 2009 at 10:14 PM
Great play, Raúl Ibañez. Does it give the NL enough energy/momentum? I doubt it highly.
Well, it's Sandman time; bye to light, enter the night!
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 10:14 PM
MO'!!!!
Posted by: B3NG4L | July 14, 2009 at 10:15 PM
Bow wo waw wo wo, bow wo waw wo wo.
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 10:15 PM
Well, I think that Brad Hawpe is the last best hope for the NL. He's a quality hitter. Here goes...
Posted by: DodgersLBC | July 14, 2009 at 10:17 PM
Amazing Jones might determine the WS and he wont have anything to do with it.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 10:18 PM
Mariano: He's just really really good.
Posted by: melonis rex | July 14, 2009 at 10:18 PM
Hehe. Who's your MVP, assuming things stand as they are? Mine's Granderson; no 4th run without that 3-bagger.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 10:18 PM
I'd say either Granderson or Crawford...
Posted by: DodgersLBC | July 14, 2009 at 10:19 PM
The Babe Ruth of closing.
Posted by: B3NG4L | July 14, 2009 at 10:19 PM
Give him the cutter Marino!
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 10:20 PM
Give Braun the MVP, way to field.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 10:21 PM
Crap, through and through.
Posted by: Tomahawk368 | July 14, 2009 at 10:22 PM
Granderson. Hands down.
Posted by: melonis rex | July 14, 2009 at 10:23 PM
Dang, my connect has to cut out at the last pitch. Well, AL proves their worth again. Congrats. NL, next year?
Well, bold predictions, 2nd half (maybe not so much): Yankees win AL East. Angels DON'T qualify, Rangers win AL West. Nothing else odd.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 10:23 PM
charlie manuel should be tarred & feathered for that managerial bs
Posted by: kevin1013 | July 14, 2009 at 10:24 PM
Mauer? game tying double?
Posted by: johan is GOD | July 14, 2009 at 10:24 PM
Well, despite my "league" losing, that was some good, high quality baseball tonight.
Posted by: DodgersLBC | July 14, 2009 at 10:24 PM
kevin what did manuel do?
Posted by: johan is GOD | July 14, 2009 at 10:25 PM
Crawford it is. Ehh, what?
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 10:27 PM
There really was no MVP.
Crawford made the catch, but it would have stayed tied if Granderson didn't hit the triple, and vice versa.
Posted by: venn177 | July 14, 2009 at 10:27 PM
Maybe not, just an interview. I HOPE.
Manuel put up Howard in a PH appearance with runners at 1st/3rd with two outs, runner at 3rd was the tying run. It's homeristic, and Howard struck out, as you know.
Posted by: UnbiasedYankee | July 14, 2009 at 10:28 PM
Okay it was fun.
Kemp demands a recount.
Goodnight all
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 10:28 PM
so johnson, cain, & santana didn't get to pitch, but billingsly, bell, & franklin did! prince didn't get slotted into 1st after his ab!!!
charlie manuel blew it. plain & simple!
Posted by: kevin1013 | July 14, 2009 at 10:29 PM
nl had the talent, but it was misused
Posted by: kevin1013 | July 14, 2009 at 10:31 PM
I can't believe this counts. How can an exhibition determine home field for your sports championship? Bud Selig...super genius.
Posted by: bweav44 | July 14, 2009 at 10:34 PM
BTW, anyone else see how tired Pujols looks? I mean really tired. Like "get this whole franchise off my back" tired.
Posted by: bweav44 | July 14, 2009 at 10:35 PM
"Manuel put up Howard in a PH appearance with runners at 1st/3rd with two outs, runner at 3rd was the tying run. It's homeristic, and Howard struck out, as you know."
Oh yeah. Managing fail.
Bud Selig is senile and stupid. This thing shouldn't count, btw. Make it a pure exhibition.
Posted by: melonis rex | July 14, 2009 at 10:36 PM
especially when the fans determine the lineup & not the stats. what a joke lol. of course the al is going to win this & the interleague play. al is built to have 9 everday hitters while the nl is built to have defensive versatility. that's why a shmuck like derosa commanded so much talent in a midseason trade.
Posted by: kevin1013 | July 14, 2009 at 10:37 PM
Kevin
Cain had a baseball going 100 mph hit his pitching elbow..
I would of gone like this
Haren(2)
Lincecum
Johnson
Franklin
Bills
Lilly
Santana
KRod
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | July 14, 2009 at 10:38 PM
that's true about cain. i'd have johan after johnson & duke & krod ahead of lilly.
Posted by: kevin1013 | July 14, 2009 at 10:43 PM
