Angels Interested In Aroldis Chapman
Aroldis Chapman isn't ready to sign with an MLB team yet, but once he is, the Angels will be interested, according to Mark Saxon of the OC Register. Angels scouting director Eddie Bane told Saxon that the Angels always have interest in top pitchers. They scouted Daisuke Matsuzaka and took a look at Stephen Strasburg even though there's no way he was falling to the Angels at 25th overall.

You can't call yourself a major league GM without at least checking in on the kid. Who knows maybe his favorite team growing up was the Pirates or Royals or something.
Also cue all the chisox fans who think they have an inside track on the kid because they signed a few Cubans recently. Mad loot is gonna be the inside track.

Agreed. Not to knock Saxon, but this is about as news-worthy as my last bowel movement. I suppose we can expect about 29 more of these.

I don't think he is going to cost as much as people are estimating right now. He is a young lefty with a blazing fastball but this kid is far from being ready for the MLB at this point. The difference between Dice-K and Strasburg compared to Chaplin is the first 2 already had the stuff to enter the bigs. Chapman still needs to make leaps with his secondary pitches and his control. Right now he is just a highly touted prospect with a big ceiling that can have a great career if all things fall into place for him.

Chapman will go where the money is, like every other prospect, and he's in for a rude awakening when he get here. The strike Zone is smaller, his antics won't be tolerated and he'll mentally remove himself from every game.
100 MPH fastball is a big deal, but every major league hitter can hit the fastball. It's the breaking pitches which make the fastball so effective. s it stands now, Chapman doesn't have nearly effective enough breaking pitches to be an effective fastball pitcher in the majors. Not to mention he lacks the control with any of his pitches.
This kid isn't going to b anything more than a 7th or 8th inning specialist, and any team that gives the kid a big paycheck will sorely regret it.

Hahah Scott, thank you for your analysis, dismissing a 21 year old lefty with a 100mph fastball and no professional coaching.

Chapman will get his money and bucket loads of it, only question is from who..
I like also how Eddie "Wolfman" Bane is hyped on scouting now, that guy was a top talent back in the day, forget what college he came out of, but man was he hyped, got a huge bonus and did he ever bomb out in Twinkie town.

Right, because obviously 21-year-old pitchers will never improve.
A lefthanded 21-year-old starter with a 95-100 fastball and some semblance of a slider is a monster prospect, and you're about to find out what type of money those prospects are worth on the open market.
If the scouting reports and his age are accurate, then you're looking at a prospect that might not be on par with Strasburg/Price//Porcello/Prior level of amateur prospect, but he's awfully close.
