On this date one year ago, Richie Sexson was released by the Seattle Mariners with almost $8MM remaining on his contract. Sexson would later sign with the Yankees and appear in 22 games and hit one home run. With the trade deadline fast approaching, let's take a look at what is being written in the Blogosphere...
- MLB Notebook breaks down the contenders for Roy Halladay.
- Over the Monster says the Red Sox won't trade for Roy Halladay and they don't need him.
- The Yankee Universe takes a look at what trading for Roy Halladay would mean for the Yankees' payroll.
- Sports Jabber says the Phillies "must" acquire Roy Halladay as long as they don't have to give up anybody that would potentially help the team this year or next.
- Simon on Sports weighs the pros and cons of trading Roy Halladay.
- Fire Brand of the American League sees the Red Sox as the best fit for Roy Halladay as long as the Jays are willing to deal within the division.
- The Phrontiersman makes a case that the Phillies farm system is deep enough to surrender their top prospects for Roy Halladay.
- Sox and Pinstripes argues that neither the Yankees nor the Red Sox will land Roy Halladay.
- Sports of Boston looks at who the Red Sox should keep and who they should move in the next few weeks, in light of the Roy Halladay rumors.
- The Blue Jay Hunter offers the viewpoint of a Jays fan on the Roy Halladay rumors.

Halladay is from Denver. Any chance he ends up back there?

Who would the Rockies give up for them?
Posted by: Torgen | July 10, 2009 at 01:56 PM
Er, for him.
Posted by: Torgen | July 10, 2009 at 01:57 PM

Can we drop the Halladay chatter until something close starts getting thrown around...This is starting to feel like high school dating gossip more than mlb rumors...

Roy Halladay's name is bolded in every line.
Run and hide.

did anyone else read that Boston Sports story?!?!?! Really? I mean really? Really? I dont think the Jays want a package of dice-k, lugo, ortiz. or a package of dice-k, lugo, pappybon. Whoever wrote that story should not get paid a penny for that, it was probably the worst article I've ever read. The Jays want young prospects and yound mlb-ready young player, not washed up players. and I'd appreciate it if articles on mlb rumors again.

Richie Sexson.
I wonder what he's up to this year - surprised he isn't in an independent league somewhere. He had two straight awful seasons, but the dude's not even 35 so he can't have hung it up quite yet, right?

I really, really, really hope that Red Sox article is a joke.

Cork,
Great site here and all, but that Sports of Boston site that is included in the links yoy included has to be one of the most biased, pro Sox I have ever seen. Some of the Sox worst homers that post here don't even propose some of the crazy proposals hinted at in that story like Matsuzaka and Lugo for Halladay. In short.. That guy is a loon...

The Phillies must acquire Roy Halladay as long as they don't have to give up anybody that would potentially help the team!?!?
Perhaps The Phillies are willing to give up a pallet of hotdogs and an old Phillies Phanatic costume for him.

I like the Phillies comment:
The Phils MUST get Halladay as long as it doesn't cost anything that will help a team over the next two years!
Uh, yeah. And why would the Jays agree to that?

Some of these links are entertaining, hehe.

As a long time Red Sox fan, that article by Sports of Boston is one of the most laughable and embarrassing articles I have ever read.
I think that for the sake of Tim and the entire site, you should take down that link. It is really, really awful.
Lugo?! Dice K?! Jesus...

Baseball fans on july31 the mets and red sox will agree to deal sending carlos beltran to boston for jacoby lugo and buccholz.

re: did anyone else read that Boston Sports story?!?!?!
He must have been drunk when he wrote that article

Wouldn't it be genius if the Jays and Doc were forming some sort of master plan to build Toronto as a team? What if Doc/JP came up with the sneaky plan of dealing him for a BOATLOAD of prospects, then have him sign back in Toronto after 2010. That would never happen, but that would be awesome if it did.

I like the beastoftheEast idea of moving beltran to the redsox, but i would see if they would also take perez.So beltran and perez to the redsox 4 ellsbury,buccholz,lugo and either dice-k or masterson.Then i would make the trade w/ the bluejays; they said they need a ss and 3b; so i would send reyes,murphy,pelfrey and holt or mejia 4 halladay and rios. The mets rotation;
halladay
santana
dice-k or masterson
buccholz
maine
then lineup;
ellsbury
castillo
wright
delgado when he comes back
rios
francoeur
scheinder
lugo

Speaking of Richie Sexson, is anyone going to give him another chance to play. I heard the Orioles had some interest last off season.
Posted by: metfan57 | July 10, 2009 at 06:58 PM
I'm not sure what the Rockies position is or would be on Halladay. I just haven't heard anything on that front. They've had a productive minor league system recently, but that's not saying it's deep enough for a deal like that. I've also not heard if Halladay would like to pitch in his hometown. Just wondering if anyone has heard anything. All the other teams seem to have some ort of vague interest at this point.

haha the red sox dont have a good farm system thats why they dont want to trade for him and the yanks are being cheap tampa are u kidding me but if the yanks take on his payroll and kick in hughs and 2 players like cab or swiaher we can have this great talent in ny
