« Braves Rumors: Vazquez, Escobar | Main | Red Sox In Serious Talks With Cuban SS »
The Cubs signed Casey Fossum and assigned him to Triple A Iowa, according to MiLB.com. He became a free agent last week when he opted out of his contract with the Yankees. Fossum had been pitching in Triple A Scranton since the Yankees picked him up in May. The Cubs will be his his third organization of the year, as he pitched briefly with the Mets before they designated him for assignment.

Whoo-Hoo!
Oh wait, its 2009. Nevermind...

I don't know much about him, but hes played for seven teams now that hes joined the cubs. Has a career record of 40 wins and 53 losses with an ugly 5.47 ERA. This is just for pitching depth, can never have too much of that.

Good depth pick-up. Not much else.

I can't believe my team gave up Curt Schilling for this guy and Brandon Lyon. Especially when we could've gotten Lester or HanRam.

Trades from the past. They haunt ya forever it seems. Depth is important, nice move.

What's wrong with this guy he is phenomenal in the minors and then he sucks up in the big leagues. minor league stats tinyurl.com/my53kb
But it's just like the cubs to pick a player who is a lazy bum.

Cody-
It's called a AAAA player. There are massive amounts of them. And as far as I know he's not a lazy bum, he's just a bum.

Can't blame any GM for stockpiling arms...not that Fossum is that impressive anymore.

He's been doing well in AAA this year. Good depth move. As I usually say regarding these signings, I look at Carlos Pena's, in 2007 a small, minor league move. Then, I think of the old NY lottery slogan, "Hey, you never know."
"I can't believe my team gave up Curt Schilling for this guy and Brandon Lyon."

I was just thinking the same thing, or how you could have have had Sori (and/or Nick Johnson). But, don't forget, you also got Jorge de la Rosa, too.

Fossum is a stop-gap insurance policy should Marshall and Jason Wardell find themselves on DL. Neal Cotts recently underwent Tommy John surgery so he will be on the shelf for a year+. If Fossum does find the bump at Wrigley, it will probably only face a few batters for a few games until GM Hendry can acquire someone more reliable

This is like Casey's 3rd team in 2 years?

"This is like Casey's 3rd team in 2 years?"
Actually its his 3rd team THIS current season (Mets, Yankees, Cubs) and at least his 4th team in 2 years.
