According to the Tacoma Rainers' official Twitter account, infielder Alex Cintron has signed a minor league contract with the Mariners.
Cintron was designated for assignment on May 20 by the Nationals after going 2-for-26 to start the season. He'll try to work his way up to the big leagues once again. The 30-year-old has a .275/.313/.394 career batting line.

Is this how desperate the Mariners are for SS depth? Picking up a Orioles/Nationals castoff?
Yikes.

To answer your question... Hello Ryan Langerhans... Not good enough to make the 25 man roster of the worst team in baseball, so let's stick him in as our starting LF during a pennant race! Sweet! I think Jack Z shops at Value Village or Goodwill.
Langerhans, Cintron, Shell, Codero, are all ex-Nationals, whose very next team was Seattle after Washington. All picked up by Jack Z.
You know just because the Nationals were the only team with a worse record last year doesn't mean that the natural progression for their players to a better team should be through us.
I'd rather find a better wholesaler to get our talent from than the Nationals. On the other hand, Jack Z. seeing worth in these guys even after Rizzo released them, could be why Washington is in such a funk.
I'm just happy that this could mean a prelude to a Betancourt and Cedeno trade. They are both young enough and have very little money owed to them that they still have value, but if we're talking worse case would be Woodward and Cintron taking turns as the SS and super sub IF, then okay, let's do it. I'm tired of Yuni and Cedeno. There's something wrong with your SS situation when you cheer a walk. In Betancourt's case, it means he didn't swing at the first pitch.
As for Cedeno, it means he didn't swing and miss at every pitch. As often as Branyan strikes out, I think Cedeno could have topped him in that category had he played every game this season.
How about we dump a mx of our spare parts and some outstanding minor league talent and take on some contract girth to make the talent better.
We could do a blockbuster trade like get Halladay, Rios, Lind, and Downs from the Orioles for Jeff Clement, Greg Halman, Phillippe Aumont, Adam Moore, Jason Vargas, Sean White, Ronny Cedeno, and Chris Jakubauskus.
I know it's not enough talent, but at the same time remember that Rios has a contract that goes through 2014 with an option for 2015, essentially we would rid the Blue Jays of $80-85MM in contracts with what Halladay and Downs are owed through 2010. Maybe the package would have to be adjusted, but I think it's a good starting point.

Okay, major fluke, FROM THE BLUE JAYS. Watching the sports report they were talking about the Mariners and Orioles and I think I typed it subconsciously... Pretty embarrassing, I think I'll go hang my head in shame and join Aardsma in the sulking room for todays performance. Him for torching an easy save opportunity and me for screwing up the blog offering.

At least when I screwed up I named another team with a Bird as the mascot and who plays in the AL East...

This was just a depth move to replace Shelton, who has been called up to Seattle to replace Sweeney.
