Odds And Ends: Moneyball, Draft Signings, Halladay

A few more links for your evening...

  • Jon Weisman of the LA Times reports that the movie based on "Moneyball" has once again been green-lighted with Aaron Sorkin signed on to finish the script.
  • The Mariners have signed their supplemental first round pick, Steven Baron, for $980K.
  • Keith Law reports that negotiations between the Brewers and one of their supplemental picks, #39 overall Kentrail Davis, have "gotten ugly" after the Brewers agreed to his demands and then he turned it down.
  • Joel Sherman reports that if Roy Halladay is traded to the NL before the All-Star game, he will not be permitted to pitch in the mid-summer classic for the AL, but could be allowed to pitch for the NL representing his new team.
  • Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News says the Roy Halladay situation is unlike two other situations in which big-name pitchers were traded within the AL East, including David Cone and Roger Clemens.

I thought a Halladay trade was weeks away anyway. I would be absolutely shocked if he was traded in the next few days.

Why pay slot for Wheeler, Davidson or Brothers when you can pay over slot for Baron?

I wonder what a little over slot is in the third round?

Aaron Sorkin is good.... for people who don't know he was the original producer/writer for "The West Wing" and was the screen play writer for Charlie Wilson's War... also direct The American President, and A Few Good Men....

Sorkin on Moneyball. That might actually be a good movie.

I think it's funny that Brad Pitt is going to play Billy Beane.

As an A's fan I was skeptical of a Monyball film, but now that Soderbergh is out I'm really not looking forward to this.

Soderbergh experimental? Umm, you know he did the Ocean's Eleven movies, right? He's a mainstream guy who does the occasional off-the-wall side project to maintain credibility with the indy kids. Regardless, yes, Sorkin is a better match.

I wonder who they've cast to play Nick Swisher.

so soderbergh is the guy I can get my $$ back for going to see Oceans 12 and 13??

I want this movie idea to die, badly. It's going to turn out awful.

Wow...what kind of cajones does this kid have to put a $$$ figure out there, and when the team agrees to it...TURN IT DOWN.

That's the kind of guy I'd want in my organization...

Does anyone know what his figure was? I am hoping he will come back to UT instead.

how boring can a movie be where front office people are talking about guys who have this ops and slugging???

my answer: very

Kentrail Davis must be one confident sun of a b****
