Yanks miss the playoffs, Girardi is gone. End of story.

"the Dodgers are one of the teams relying on psychological data to select and handle their players."
Really? Manny. Really?

"ESPN.com's Jorge Arangure Jr. says the Dodgers are one of the teams relying on psychological data to select and handle their players."
... but they picked up Manny anyway.

KC, it's not too late to pick up Lugo, too. He's practically free.

This would be the same Dodgers that traded for Manny, right? I guess that tells us something about what sort of pyschological profiles they're looking for in their player selection/handling process.

I was wondering myself why KC didn't get Lugo instead of Betancourt. Cheaper in both money and prospects not to mention he can proabally play better anyway. He isn't a horrible player just another guy who is terrible for his contract.

Everyone's bringing up Manny regarding the Dodgers' use of psychological profiles. But I think it's obvious they make exceptions for elite players. Or perhaps Manny has one of the key psychological markers they look for.
Regardless, whatever they are doing it seems to work. They were winning this year even without Manny.
That article is for paid subscribers only. Can anyone who has access read the article and give us an idea of what it says? What do the Dodgers look for in players? I'd be really interested to know.

Cheater?

SuzysMan, I get your drift. But obviously, his PEDs habits were unknown before he was signed. So, seriously, maybe it was something related to him being oblivious to game pressure.
But my guess is the psychological evaluations have more to do with scouting and development than players acquired through trades or free agency.

suzysman, since I can't access the article, I'm only guessing here. But I wouldn't be surprised if they used psychological profiling whenever possible when looking at major leaguers as well. Their ability to do so would obviously be far more limited than if the player were in their farm system. But I doubt they would ignore the mental factors.
I'm a Mets fan. Sometimes I think Omar completely ignores the psychological makeup of a player. Trading Bannister for Burgos is a prime example. And I thought this was a bad trade for just those reasons before Burgos got into legal trouble.

What is the reasoning behind not being able to trade draft picks? I can't see the negatives out weighing the positives.
