Padres DFA Edwin Moreno
MLB.com's Corey Brock tells us, via Twitter, that the Padres have designated right-hander Edwin Moreno for assignment in order to make room on the 40-man roster for catcher Jose Lobaton.
The Padres were forced to create room for another catcher on the roster following injuries to both Nick Hundley and Henry Blanco.
Moreno, 28, was 1-3 for the Pads with a 4.84 ERA. He had notched 15 strikeouts through 22.1 innings to go along with 15 walks, while opposing hitters were batting .311 off of him.
Lobaton, 24, is hitting .248/.301/.360 with three home runs through 37 games at AAA this year.

Moreno is not good.
When you're in your age 29 season and you're still posting just okay numbers in AAA, then you probably aren't ever going to make it in the majors.

Blanco has been a HUGE disappointment for the Padres.

Blanco has been a disappointment at the plate yes....but the whole reason for signing him was so that he could mentor Nick Hundley.... Blanco is a professional catcher in every way. It's nice to have an experienced catcher behind the dish for these young padre pitchers.

They were expecting number closer to last year's fluke

People should be happy with what Blanco has done.
His 10.6% walk rate this year is more than double what he had posted in Chicago, and his numbers last year were fueled by a .337 BABIP from a guy with a .256 career BABIP.
At least he has a .301 OBP this year.

I would say Blanco has been exactly what Padre fans (who have a clue about baseball) thought he would be. Pedestrian (at best) at the plate, and a mentor for Hundley and a young pitching staff.
Unfortunately none of the Pads pitchers (or catchers) can stay healthy long enough to develop any concistency.
Hank White is doing just fine...

OR, you can always trade him to Cleveland for a young upside reliever you will control for years!

Literally has done zero until late with the bat and has for the most part not looked good behind the dish. Looking clueless at the plate and if anything Hundley was regressing as a defender. So what did he do exactly? NOTHING. Your poster name fits your assessments of Blanco. After that statement I would have to wonder if you even watch BB! Looked very unmotivated as well..... good call!
