Reds Sign Humberto Valor

Kiley McDaniel tweets that the Reds have signed Venezuelan shortstop Humberto Valor. The bonus is said to be in the "high six figures." Valor is said be a solid all-around player with good instincts and very good defense at short.

Comments

Mike, I believe stating "Valor was rated as the 25th best prospect on the international market this year by Baseball America's Ben Badler" is inaccurate.

Ben even clarified on Twitter that the list is meant to rank the expected bonus for these guys, not their abilities. In fact, the first line in that link says "The players below from Latin America are ranked based on their expected signing bonuses, not their projected talent"

Whoops, my bad. Thanks zs190.

I like the signing.

The Reds seem to like the international market, with the Soto, Francisco, Rodriguez and Duran signings, among others.
