Mark Sheldon of MLB.com is reporting that the Reds have signed Kip Wells to a minor league deal and assigned him to AAA.
Wells was designated for assignment on June 24th by the Nationals and elected free agency after clearing waivers. He posted a 6.49 ERA and an 18/18 K/BB ratio in 26 1/3 innings out of the Nationals' bullpen.

What is the appeal here? How does he keep finding work? I'm assuming this is a depth move...

We have some pretty decent SP in Lou. I assume this guy wont be on the roster next year.

1st move leading towards trading david weathers for garett akins. Wells probably won't make the roster, but with one less experienced releiver on such a young team it doesn't hurt to add one.

The only thing I can think of with this signing is that a reliever is getting moved. Garett Atkins is intriguing. So is Scott Rolen.

Reds fans, pray he doesn't make it to the majors at any point. He was terrible to watch this year.

It has nothing to do with moving a reliever, if they move a reliever Burton will be called up.

"It has nothing to do with moving a reliever, if they move a reliever Burton will be called up."
And if a starter is moved? What about a position player? Technically, if a pitcher and a position player is moved, the Reds could call up 2 pitchers, if they want.
This isn't going to be a signing just to fill a spot at Triple A.
