« Sabean Defuses Martinez, Dye Rumors | Main | Padres DFA Edwin Moreno »
If you follow @mlbtraderumors on Twitter, then you may have seen today that the Indians announced via @tribeinsider: "Shapiro stated this am that Eric Wedge and his staff will remain in their positions the rest of this season".
Anthony Castrovince suggested they may stick around beyond 2009, adding that "Shapiro said today's announcement is ... the next step in a continuing conversation with ownership about the direction of the club. All parties involved felt it important to remove all clouds of doubt about Wedge's security and make the most of the second half, from a player development standpoint." Wedge is signed through 2010.

At this point, the manager of the 2009 Cleveland Indians really doesn't matter.
What matters is that team needs to compile some more pitching, because they're really lacking there.
Adding Perez and another arm in the DeRosa trade was definitely a move in the right direction, but guys like Reyes, Laffey, Sowers, Huff, Carmona, Lewis and Jackson really haven't done much yet, moving Meloan was curious and it's unclear what they really have in guys like Adam Miller, Hector Rondon, Rob Bryson, Kelvin De La Cruz and Chen-Chang Lee.
They have a ton of position players in the organization with Sizemore, Hafner, Martinez, Shoppach, Garko, Cabrera, Valbuena, Choo, Francisco, and Peralta at the major league level, as well as LaPorta, Santana, Mills, Hodges, Rivero, Abreu, Chisenhall, Weglarz and Crowe among others.
Pitching needs to be priority number one, and that includes signing Alex White.

Totally off-topic, I apologize, but am I the only one who's sick of the red caps? Yesterday was the 4th so I guess I can take one day of this Czar Selig inspired money grab. But three days in a row? The blue caps were fine for Memorial Day I suppose, but again I feel like I'm being force-fed by MLB Marketing. Does anybody really think these are sharp? Sorry I had to vent.

No surprise. I think this more of a cost-saving measure. If the Tribe doesn't get better next year, I don't think so, personally, then Wedge gone in 2010. Why not this year? The Indians don't care to pay a manager next year that isn't employed by them.
I'm with you there, 4appling. I don't care for them myself. It looks especially dumb, personally, with teams that use blue as a primary color, minus the Jays, who shouldn't wear such a cap anyway. It makes the Cubs and Yanks look like they're the Cardinals or Red Sox. Thankfully, it doesn't make the Dodgers look too much like the Giants.
On a side note, where do you get your prospect lists, scribbletone [Baseball America?]? I know a great deal of prospects per system, from pure memory alone (along with many a stat), but, I'd like to know more prospects and their numbers, to make my posts more valid and useful to an arguement.

I try to get my information from as many sources as possible, but I generally use Baseball Prospectus, Baseball America, Keith Law and John Sickels to get my information about prospects.
Sickels' work on minorleagueball.com is good, and he's a well-respected name in the game, he used to write for ESPN.

Speaking of prospects and the AL Central, why is Poreda rotting in the pen and not getting appearances?

how about a twitter from Tim on Mike Axisa's job security?

After today's start, with Richard only going 3 1/3, I would think Poreda's first start may be next Sat. in the HDome.
