« Odds And Ends: Tate, Draft, Tejada, Jays | Main | La Russa Wants Speier, Smoltz? »
Jim Callis of Baseball America reports that the Blue Jays agreed to sign first round pick Chad Jenkins for $1.36MM, which is $9k above slot. Callis says the college righty combines "a tremendous feel for pitching with quality stuff," specifically a fastball that touches 96 mph and a plus slider.

Thankfully & finally...a shred of good news. Now let's get Paxton, Eliopoulos, Barrett & Marisnick done!

Paxton and Jenkins would be a good injection of pitching talent into a system that can use it. Paxton has had a lot of inconsistency but when he's on he's been dominant and he could emerge as a lefty TOR starter if he properly develops.

lol @ a system that could use it. WOW.
Halladay
Marcum
McGowan
Litsch
Cecil
Romero
Mills
Rz
Richmond
ALL Home grown.
Add in Castro, who is struggling, Perez, Gonzalez, if Purcey could ever put it together (though not likely), plus a few guys in the lower systems, and you have quite a bit of pitching.

i think the bluejays need to trade some away to get some good quality batters and they can turn one of this ptichers as a closer my choice is mcgowan if he can't return to his old form.

Let's remember that Litsch/McGowan/Marcum are ALL coming off arm injuries. 2 at absolute most return to form. So having Jenkins is a good call.
