« Odds & Ends: Strasburg, White Sox, Rangers | Main | Red Sox Agree To Terms With David Renfroe »
6:59pm: Gilbert tweets that Borchering signed for $1.8MM, so he got a couple hundred grand over slot.
6:30pm: The Diamondbacks have agreed to terms with first round pick Bobby Borchering, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert. Terms of the deal are not yet known, but D-Backs scouting director Tom Allison told reporters earlier in the week "that the club had improved its offer from $1.5 million," but did not reveal specifics. The $1.5MM offer is essentially slot money.
Borchering is a switch hitting third baseman with power out of a Florida high school.

Good job, Dbacks. Looks like a good draft.

Definitely agree that it looks like a nice draft for Arizona.
With the graduation of Gerardo Parra, they didn't have much high-end positional talent in the system. Landing Bobby Borchering, A.J. Pollock and Matt Davidson really help that.
Now they just need to get Jarrod Parker healthy, Jackson/Young back on track, and ensure that Scherzer can stay in the rotation long term.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Jackson in left and Brandon Allen at first base sometime next year.

I would be surprised if Jackson and Allen DIDN'T make up LF and 1B, scribbletone. Allen is RAKING in AAA.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Allen at 1st and Jackson traded off before the beginning of next season. Remember the d-backs haven't given up on CY who plays a better CF than Parra. I'd look to see Parra in LF next season.

Also the way Trent Oeltjen has been playing as of late if he stays on track I could see him as our 4th OF next season.

Jackson probably won't be traded, because his value is so low due to his illness. I look for Byrnes to be cut, obviously, and Parra plays CF against righties, and Young plays CF against lefties.

But it was illness not injury. Jackson is playing A ball now and will be back in Sept. and would be healthy next season.

I know, Gringo. I said "illness." Valley Fever is such a terrible illness (especially to athletes) though, that it's not certain he'll come back to form. Some people have never fully recovered after having Valley Fever. Jackson is still feeling fatigued after games, he says. By the way, he's 0-10 for Visalia.
