« Giants Re-Sign Freddy Sanchez | Main | Hendrickson Hopes To Re-Sign With O's Quickly »
According to Henry Schulman of The SF Chronicle, Giants lefthander Noah Lowry will become a free agent today after he is removed from the 40-man roster. Schulman said Lowry's agent was informed of the move today, who added that he is "completely healthy throwing three days a week on his normal offseason program without any restrictions."
Lowry hasn't appeared in a game since August of 2007 due to an arm injury, and Lowry's camp believes the Giants misdiagnosed and mistreated the injury. The 29-year-old was in the final year of his four-year, $9.25MM in 2009, and still has one more year of arbitration eligibility ahead of him.

Took the words right out of my mouth

People should at least kick the tires on him. I could see teams like the Mets and Brewers doing the "buy low" kind of deal. Guy hasn't pitched in the mlb for awhile, I can't see him getting a big deal or anything.
He'd definitely be worth a good look for another team though. Guy is a class act.

I feel bad for Noah and I really hope he can pitch well again
before Lincecum and Cain he was the young pitcher that got us excited about the future. he's got good stuff I think he'd do well in a pitcher friendly ballpark

Noah Lowry went 14-7 in 2007 with an ERA of 3.92 in a the NL West. He deserves a look as a buy low candidate ... Brewers, Nationals, Astros all should be interested... Woudln't surprise me to see him get a deal like Sergio Mitre got and make the same type of contribution this season.

Depending on the seriousness of the injury (or rather lingering effects), I think he's young enough and has a good enough track record that most teams will at least kick the tires.

Agreed... 100% agreed

Lowry is not just two years removed from playing, he's four years removed from a decent season FIP-wise. In 2007 his FIP was 4.89. He'll get a minor league deal somewhere unless some GM is an idiot (always possible).

Now that Duncan is back for sure, any chance the Cardinals look into another reclamation project?

Mulder cant be happy about this. Another lefty with shoulder problems. I wonder if either will sign.

I think Lowry's injury began in 2006, got worse in 2007 and fully degraded without a correct diagnosis in 2008. If Noah's independent doctors got things right in 2009 and his lack of feeling in his left arm is now resolved then there is no reason why the great changeup he had in 2005 and earlier and it's corresponding 7 Ks per 9 innings can not return. If it does, Lowry will be a great cheap pickup for the team that takes a chance on him.

I remember Lowry having some young promise, however, I think the league sort of caught up with him. For example, his k/9 plummeted from over 7 per 9 down to under 5 per 9. Also, too many base runners. I have no interest in him.

Never threw hard and has control issues...
Should definitely stay in the NL West...

His FIP went from 3.89 in 2005 to 4.97 in 2006 (age 25 and 26 seasons). That screams injury to me. 2005 Noah Lowry is a solid #3 starter, who would even be a serviceable #2 in a bad rotation. There's no way he went from that to being batting practice fodder in just 1 year, without something else being involved.

I know what you're getting at by comparing him to Mitre because he was hurt for a while, but I don't think anyone would want a pitcher to perform like he did this year. Every start, he gave his team no chance to win. Pretty much got bombed every game but he was probably very rusty and in the AL East.

The Giants really ruined Lowry. I hope he takes them to task if he can't ever recover.

I followed his career since they brought him up. It's a terrible situation all around. Imagine if he was never misdiagnosed the pitching depth we'd have. That or the trade bait.

It's a shame because I always thought Lowry was going to be an elite pitcher. It's tough to take risk on guys like this. He has to prove he is healthy before anything.

I'm thinking the Nationals will take him on and see what happens. After all he did have a winning season and the Nationals need all the help they can get.

I hope the Mariners take a look at Noah Lowry.

If recent trends mean anything, kenny williams and he white sox brass will be calling. Gavin Floyd, john danks, contreras (albeit for only 1 1/2 years)Quentin, thornton. Kenny loves his buy low players
