Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has the latest on the Brew Crew's off-season maneuvering....
- As reported earlier today, the Brewers are expected to pursue veteran starters Jarrod Washburn and Doug Davis. Scott Boras, Washburn's agent, said that he hadn't met with Brewers management yet, but expected the team to "resume their interest" (via Twitter).
- Haudricourt tweeted that the Brewers have already made contact with Davis' agent. Milwaukee could be battling with (among other teams) the Mariners over Davis' services, as FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi noted that Seattle "may be keen" on Davis themselves.
- Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin said he didn't ask the Red Sox for Clay Buchholz or Daniel Bard in exchange for the now-departed J.J. Hardy, but those names did surface in trade talks with Boston last summer (via Twitter).
- Melvin said the club may go with prospect Jonathan Lucroy at catcher next season, either as part of a platoon or perhaps as an everyday player should Lucroy perform well in spring training. Lucroy hit .267/.381/.418 in 506 plate appearances at Double-A Huntsville last season, and has an .844 OPS over his three minor league seasons. Another catching prospect, Angel Salome, will be given a long look in the spring as well.
- Lucroy's elevation could spell the end of Jason Kendall's time in Milwaukee, though Haudricourt noted that Melvin met with Kendall's representatives to see if the free agent catcher would be willing to return. If the veteran does come back to the Brewers, it will surely be at a lower price than Kendall's $5MM salary in 2009.
Daniel Bard. Not Josh.

It would be nice to have Kendall back for another year to catch for 1 or 2 pitchers and help lucroy along.

Fox Sports thinks the Mariners are interested in everyone. I'm beginning to think they know nothing more than the agents' wishlists. Not what the teams are looking for. I wouldn't hate Davis but he'll be too expensive and possibly another Miguel Batista situation.

why bring back kendall? his bat is only gonna get worse and his defense certainly won't get any better either... he's getting old. bring him back as a mentor/backup to salome or lucroy if you still want his influence, but only for about 1MM. otherwise, see ya!

"bring him back as a mentor/backup to salome or lucroy"
if by that you mean roving catching instructor in the Brewers organization for $500k, by all means...as a guy who will catch 140+ games next year...no thanks

I don't understand why the Brewers are interested in Washburn. He is going to be grossly overpaid no matter what, and he was terrible with the Tigers the second half of last year. As a smaller market team the Brewers should do something else with their money.

we should go for wolf. he had a solid year last year and wouldnt demand as much money as lackey. Then take the risk and sign any two combo of myers, davis, harden, duchscherer, or bedard.
1. wolf
2. yo gallardo
3. Parra
4. FA
5. FA
Suppan and Bush, together with narveson, as long relief.

why are the Brewers even intersted in davis, did he really have a decent 2009 campaign? Whats with these players coming around a second time around and melvin thinking their careers are going to be better, i.e David Weathers, Claudio Vargas...i just dont get the reasoning behind it

Yeah, I couldn't imagine someone would demand Buchholz or Bard for Hardy but then proceed to accept Gomez. It didn't make much sense when it came out.
