Today was a busy day for options, as eleven decisions were reached. Here's a summary:
- The White Sox declined Jermaine Dye's $12MM option, paying a $950K buyout.
- The Phillies exercised their $9MM option on Cliff Lee.
- The Diamondbacks exercised their $8.5MM option on Brandon Webb.
- The Royals declined options on Coco Crisp, Miguel Olivo, and Yasuhiko Yabuta.
- The Brewers declined David Weathers' $3.7MM option, paying a $400K buyout.
- The Mets declined J.J. Putz's $9.15MM option, paying a $1MM buyout.
- The Rockies declined options on Yorvit Torrealba and Alan Embree.
- The Nationals declined Austin Kearns' $10MM option, paying a $1MM buyout.
- Our 2010 MLB Free Agents list shows the remaining options: Ramon Hernandez, Victor Martinez, Jason Varitek, Gregg Zaun, Alex Gonzalez, Jack Wilson, Pedro Feliz, Carl Crawford, Manny Ramirez, Tim Hudson, Braden Looper, Tim Wakefield, Rafael Betancourt, and Brian Shouse. Decisions on several of these have already been publicized though.
Tim do they have to choose before Monday. Then after monday they are free agents?

It almost feels as if Huddie has already signed the thing.
But i'll still be excited when it's done.

As it was coming from Boras, I didn't quite consider the Manny one official.

Can the Phils still negoiate with Lee on an extension?
Posted by: chicagocubsfan | November 07, 2009 at 08:12 AM
Dye is a perfect fit for the Braves. I think he could bring then the power they need while playing an average LF.

Darion, Hudson is out of town helping in one of Laroche's charity events. His extension will be anounced tuesday or wednesday of next week.
It does seem very logical for Dye to end up with the Braves, Nady also

Phils can still offer Lee an extension at any time

Boston should sign Jermaine Dye, JJ Putz, oick up V-Mart's option and ink him to an extension, either pick up Gonzo's option or decline and work out a deal with him or posibly Jack Wilson

why would signing dye be of any use to the sox?
Posted by: chanej88 | November 07, 2009 at 09:34 AM
Yeah, they already got a star outfielder. Remember hermida??? Best trade by the sox in a WHILE...

I was almost expecting the Dodgers to pay Manny like 9MM not to come back. Then he could go get a multi-year deal, while still making close to the same ammount overall. And the Dodgers wouldn't have to pay 20MM in one year for him.
Of course, it doesn't make a ton of sense for LA, but it was fun to think about.
