« Mariners Reach Agreement With Ken Griffey Jr. | Main | Branyan Rejects Mariners' Offer »
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald packs his Marlins rumors into one paragraph:
We hear the Marlins have been getting trade inquiries about Matt Lindstrom and are considering dealing him. One Marlins official said Leo Nuñez seems better-suited to close games. The Marlins lean toward keeping Jorge Cantu (who has drawn interest) but would consider an extraordinary offer. Dan Uggla remains likely to be dealt.
It's fitting to see Lindstrom's name on the trading block, since he's arbitration-eligible for the first time. Lindstrom had an ugly year; he spent time on the DL with an elbow strain.
The Marlins' desire to retain Cantu is surprising. His salary will continue to increase in 2010, and he's shaky defensively.

Keeping Cantu makes very little sense. He is decent at 1B,but horrible at third. With Logan Morrison and Gaby Sanchez,Cantu will only be kept to play third. With a salary in the 5 mil range, the Marlins should deal him for pitching.

The Marlins have to keep somebody. If they deal Uggla, they cannot deal Cantu.

If the Marlins are seeking an "extraordinary offer" for a terrible defender coming off a sub-.800 OPS season AND who will probably net an arbitration award in the $4.5 million range, then I guess they want to keep him.

If the Braves don't land Holliday they should make a play for Uggla and move Prado to 1B or RF. We NEED a RH hitter who can hit 30HR and protect Chipper.

I would rather keep Uggla at 7 mil,.The Marlins wont just keep somebody for the sake of keeping somebody and they should trade both.Cody Ross is going to be back.Cantu is expandable because they have other options at first base.Having Cantu play third is an option, but not a good one in my opinion.Uggla is a much better fielder.Uggla is actually average, despite one horrific all star game.

If only Cody Ross would come to by Blue Jays then this offseason would be a success. Snider in left, Ross in Center, Vernon in right. That would be awesome !
Overbay DH
Hill 2ND
Lind 1ST
Wells RF
Ross CF
Encarnacion 3rd
catcher
Snider LF
SS
I'd watch that for another season.
Sorry to bring the BJ's into this. Prob no way the Marlins would trade Ross anyways

If the Braves have a shot at Uggla why can't the Mets?
We gonna dump castillo to some team like the Cubs.
Posted by: supersteve1492 | November 11, 2009 at 12:31 PM
I could see Uggla on the Dodgers
Posted by: nakid | November 11, 2009 at 12:34 PM
bbxxj, no way the braves are landing holliday unless they get rid of derek lowe which is gonna be impossible to do.

marinersfanforlife,
you have to be kidding, the mariners would be winners of that trade. Why would the Marlins want jason vargas BACK? He was horrific, terrible trade idea. I see Uggla headed to the dodgers easily. I wouldn't want to see uggla get traded within the divison, but it is going to take some good prospects or great young pitching to get Uggla
Posted by: MarlinsFanatic | November 11, 2009 at 12:42 PM
I am really upset we didn't trade Uggla last offseason. We could have gotten Matt Cain. Now? James McDonald...big difference
Posted by: gofish89 | November 11, 2009 at 12:46 PM
Two years ago in the miguel, dontrelle trade the marlins would have got Matt Kemp, James Loney, and Chad Billingsly. Of coarse the team said no to that but said yes to mike rabelo, andrew miller and , maybin. Fantastic. The Marlins should do deals instead of waiting a year because it would have been awesome to have cain in the rotation this year.

Ummm Matt Cain was NEVER offered for Dan Uggla...''
Posted by: 55saveslives | November 11, 2009 at 12:52 PM
No, Matt Cain was one of the people that was going to be offered for Uggla, but it never happened.
Posted by: MarlinsFanatic | November 11, 2009 at 12:54 PM
I dont know who we would get in return, but for some reason I see Uggla going to the Twins, Tigers, or Cubs

A fan ask Joe Frisaro if the Marlins might pursure Chone Figgins and offer him a deal. Frisaro doesn't rule out the idea and says they Marlins could offer him something around a 4yr, 25 million dollar deal. MarlinsFanatic,
Exactly.Uggla coming off an all-star year would have gotten them Cain after a dissappointing year. For all the great things Beinfest does,he has really blown many trades (see cabrera trade)
Posted by: gofish89 | November 11, 2009 at 12:57 PM
I think Jonathan Sanchez is the best young pitcher the Marlins can get for Uggla and if we can re-sign Penny then I would try to put a package together around J. Sanchez for Uggla. maybe J. Sanchez, Nick Noonan, Henry Sosa, and John Bowker or Jesus Guzman for Uggla?
then sign an outfielder of Mike Cameron, Jermaine Dye, Xavier Nady, or Eric Byrnes (sounds like AZ will release him) and we could have a good lineup adding Uggla and one of those outfielders

C-Baker
1B-Morrison
2B-Coghlan
SS-Ramirez
3B-Figgins
LF-Peterson/Carroll
CF-Maybin
RF-Ross
pretty solid if that were to happen
Posted by: MarlinsFanatic | November 11, 2009 at 12:59 PM
He was never going to be offered...
This very site reported that Giants inquired about Cain and speculation from Miami reporters is that Cain or Sanchez would have to be offered. So NO you could not have had Cain.
That is MUCH MUCH different then two teams GM's mentioning names.

Sorry, Inquired about Uggla...
Posted by: 55saveslives | November 11, 2009 at 12:59 PM
55saveslives,
I am not talking about Cain for Uggla when the season already started! That was my point,we could have had him in the offseason but we didn't make the move.Once Uggla got off to a horrible start and Cain was a stud, ofcourse we couldn't have made that deal.
Posted by: gofish89 | November 11, 2009 at 01:03 PM
gofish89
Exactly.
Posted by: MarlinsFanatic | November 11, 2009 at 01:04 PM
If I were the Marlins I wouldn't even do a Uggla for a crappy prospect (James McDonald). I would only do like a Uggla for Kershaw deal. If no, move on to another team because there's plenty of suitors.
Posted by: MarlinsFanatic | November 11, 2009 at 01:09 PM
Before the season, if Marlins GM called Giants GM and said Cain for Uggla, Giants GM would have hung up.
If there was some kind of legit report that a possible trade offer was on the table, I'd believe it...
The trade was never talked about outside sportswriter speculation...

I have contended an Uggla for Bilingsley makes some sense. As much as i would love Kershaw, that simply is not happening.Uggla for Sanchez and some lottery tickets like SF bum mentioned? eh
Posted by: gofish89 | November 11, 2009 at 01:15 PM
I would take anything over sanchez, i no he had a no hitter but he isn't good.... at all.
Posted by: MarlinsFanatic | November 11, 2009 at 01:17 PM
new marlins post giants, orioles and sox interested ? wow so much for the giants not wanting him lol
Posted by: MarlinsFanatic | November 11, 2009 at 01:21 PM
I would be thrilled if we get Billingsley for Uggla. I heard the same thing on the radio, some insider was talking about it. JJ, Billingsley and Nolasco at the top of the rotation would be outstanding. What about Cantu and Lindstrom for Brandon Wood, Jose Arredondo, and a player to be named? He would play 3rd and Gaby Sanchez at first. Coghlan to 2nd and either Carroll at RF or Bryan Peterson/Logan Morrison at LF. That's a playoff team.
