What is with all these people thinking it's clever to pretend they are Braden Looper, Jim Hendry, and even Starlin Castro? It's gotta be the dumbest thing I've read on this site.
Also, since when does Aroldis Chapman speak English?

[Comment From AG AG: ]
Out of all the rumors out there for Hardy (Morrow, Liriano, Slowey, Bowden) which one would you do?
Tuesday November 3, 2009 2:43 A"
Slowey, and it takes 5 seconds for the Brewers to agree.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | November 03, 2009 at 02:45 PM
They don't think it's clever. It's just a quicker way to ask the question.

What do you think the Mets have to give up for Bronson Arroyo or Aaron Harang? Someone please answer.
Posted by: diehardmets | November 03, 2009 at 03:09 PM
Same here PL. It's probably just a temporary glitch since the chat just ended.

I'm thinking along the lines of Jose Reyes.
I'm kidding, but as a Reds fan, I would be pumped.
Probably something like a mid-range minor leaguer and salary relief.

Broxton for Brandon Phillips?
Tuesday November 3, 2009 2:52 Alex
2:52 No for many reasons
BAHAHAHA. Im sorry, but thats pretty bad. Broxton showed he is one of the best closers in the majors... and it was his first full year as a closer. hell no
Posted by: lakersdodgersyankees4life | November 03, 2009 at 03:44 PM
Doumit for Brignac...who hangs up first?
Interesting. That seems to make sense for both sides, if the Rays are OK with Doumit's contract.
Gotta respectively disagree here. I'd be pumped if we could somehow pull this off, but with Doumit's health issues/ poor defensive prowess and Brignac's cheap contract, I can't see the Ray's Front Office getting fleeced on this one.

Whoa I didn't even see that one.

Closers even good ones aren't that difficult to find. I rather have Phillips. Give me a solid offensive gold glove defensive 2B that plays every day over any pitcher that will only give you around 70 innings.

You do have to factor in the money though.
Broxton will probably make around $10-12M for the next two seasons, while Phillips is due $18.13M for 2010-2011, along with a $12M option for 2012 that has a $1M buyout attached to it.
When factoring in salaries, the choice between two years of Broxton and two years of Phillips becomes a lot closer.
I would take Phillips over Broxton, too, but that's not exactly an obvious choice to make, Broxton is one excellent reliever.

Question: Why does the Manny rumor get shot down because Ned C. says its not true? Manny has a player option who could opt out and sign with another team.

Yeah but if he does so be it. I swear I could of seen a article saying Manny already was in the process of exercising that option.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | November 03, 2009 at 04:37 PM
thanks 661. i guess i just dont put much merit behind Ned C. saying that. Now if Manny would have shot down the rumor than thats a different ball of wax
Posted by: allstarlineup | November 03, 2009 at 04:40 PM
661, there hasnt been an article Ive seen that he's excersing it, but rather most expect him to. Gurnick said it may not be so clear cut because he doesnt like play LF, but for now, there is no offical word.
And with the Broxton/Phillips trade, I dont think it makes sense for the Dodgers, or Reds. They just signed Cordero to a huge deal and you know he'll b*tch about not closing.
And technically, Ned saying its a negative means nothing. But he seemed so frank that there's a good chance its BS. Also, given the fact that nothing more has come from it and no one team has been named, or even a division, should show that is was bull.

Brandon Phillips in the NL west equals = A faster, better fielding Freddy Sanchez.
Phillips is good but come on now.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | November 03, 2009 at 04:53 PM
"They just signed Cordero to a huge deal"
Ha, that deal was two years ago. The time just flys by.
Posted by: Ethanator99 | November 03, 2009 at 04:56 PM
Wow, I would think Broxton for Phillips would be heavily favored by Dodger fans. A closer is much easier to come by than a 2nd basemen the caliber of Phillips. Albeit, that closer won't be as good as Broxton.
Of course, like Scribble said, you have to factor in the money. Even then, I'd take Phillips everyday of the year.

ethan, really? Holy crap. I thought he still had 2 yrs left???

i too, would take Brandon Phillips over broxton.
Posted by: nick21 | November 03, 2009 at 06:02 PM
This is part of my thinking... Do you need a good 2B to win a title? Hell no. Some of the most dominating teams had fringe 2B(look at the Yankee Dynasty of the late 90s, look at Knoblauch. He made some great plays, including career high in HRs, but he wasnt a great 2b). However, almost every title team had a dominating closer. Yankees, Angels, Bo Sox, Phillies, etc all had closers that had great years when they won the title. it isnt a coincidence...
Posted by: lakersdodgersyankees4life | November 03, 2009 at 06:40 PM
No offense intended, but honestly that was a weak arguement. It very well could be a coincidence. I mean, look at the two teams in the WS now. The Yankees have a dominating closer, but the Phils are a big question mark. And they aren't getting blown away. Phillips could bring to a contender what Utley brings to the Phils, of course with a little less production.
Would you rather have Phillips as your 2B and someone like Soriano as your closer, or Broxton closing and someone line Hudson playing 2B?
Even if they traded for Uggla and kept Broxton, I would still rather have Phillips and Soriano/Valverde/Gonzalez.
Just my opinion.
Posted by: WS2009 | November 03, 2009 at 07:04 PM
LakersDodgersYankees, Yeah he still has two years left. I was just saying that the contract wasn't just signed.
Posted by: Ethanator99 | November 03, 2009 at 07:09 PM
I would rather have Hudson and Broxton than Uggla and Soriano. But thanks.
Posted by: 661dodgerblue | November 03, 2009 at 07:24 PM
I never said anything about Uggla and Soriano.
Posted by: WS2009 | November 03, 2009 at 07:40 PM
to me, Phillips is no where NEAR what Utley is. I dont think that he would bring enough of a difference for us to be willing to give away a couple more wins a year with a different closer. I completley understand what your saying, but watching Broxton every day just shows me how good a pitcher he is. And like I said, this was his first full year as the closer, which means he can get better as he gets more comfortable pitching with the game on the line.
Valverde is gonna get 8M+ a year, and Soriano and Gonzalez, to me, arent really closers, but rather very good setup men.
I have a feeling that we will get a 2B(the org isnt comfortable with giving the kids a shot) and it seems likely that Uggla could be a target. They could kill 2 birds with one stone(JJ and Uggla) for a huge package, but they wont be trading Broxton. It just makes a bigger hole that I wouldnt be comfortable(and many fans/FO guys) with someone other than Broxton closing. Id hate to have Sherrill closing...
Posted by: lakersdodgersyankees4life | November 03, 2009 at 07:50 PM
Ethan, my point is do you want a 13M setup man and be paying Broxton, while Cordero would be b*tching about not closing? For 2 years? doesnt sound like a good ending
Posted by: lakersdodgersyankees4life | November 03, 2009 at 07:52 PM
Yeah I agree with you. I was just saying the contract was signed two years ago.
Posted by: Ethanator99 | November 03, 2009 at 08:40 PM
I kind of like the David Dejesus to the Cubs idea. I really don't know who would have to be given up to receive him. I've always liked how this guy plays. Just an idea. Can't wait to see what Jim Hendry messes up this year. As a Cubs fan I'm getting sick of overpaying for average guys in the FA market. To bad Milton doesn't like KC.
