". He points out that Jeremy Guthrie's numbers are on par wth Lackey's over the last few years."
Seriously?
2007-2009 FIP:
Lackey: 3.54, 4.53, 3.73
Guthrie: 4.41, 4.53, 5.31 (notice a trend?)
I'd venture to say that Lackey's 2008 season was the anomoly here, basically driven by a 15.3% HR/F that not surprisingly returned to a more normal 9.1% this year.

Well, the numbers are similar in that they are both sets of numbers noted in a decimal scale within a range of 0 and 10. Out of all the possible numbers in the world, you have to admit they're relatively similar.

With that said, I think Guthrie is a bit better than his FIP indicates (I recall him being able to induce some weak contact) but he definitely does not have the track record of Lackey. But Lackey has an injury record. Moral of the story, I don't like either of them.

And I think the Phillies should resign Myers as a reliever. He did okay closing, and Lidge was their albatross this season. They won in spite of him, not because of him. And ultimately, he gave up one WS game for them. Having Myers on board gives a second option to use if Lidge has another all-time bad closer season.

I don't know if Mrs. Myers wants Brett to get upset, we all know what happends when that occurs.

Again I ask if Glen Perkins isn't good enough for the Twins rotation, why would the Brewers want him? They have guys that can post ERA's close to 6. The idea for trading Hardy is to improve their pitching, not stockpile more bad pitching.

Hey Brett, I'm sure the Phillies would like to bring you back, but as a $2-3 million a year reliever, not as a starter.

I predict the Twins will re-sign Cabrera, and Hardy goes some place else. O-Cab seemed to be a spark for them and provided some good energy. Unfortunately, his TV interviews are brutally incomprehensible, which could hurt.

The Tigers should go HARD after Hardy!

I'd much rather have Brett Myers than Jamie Moyer.

I don't want Hardy. What the Twins need to do is get Punto at short and find a decent 2B.

I always think back to the article that was posted on this site stating that Cardinals management would be putting themselves in a weird position having a player on their team making more than Pujols, even if it is only for 1-2 years. I have my stance on what Holliday is really worth, but I get really confused reading some of the comments on this site defending that he is worth 20+mm a year. If Pujols walks in the FA (i'm not thinking this will happen), will readers still be defending Holliday's 20+mm salary? I don't believe so. Just wondering out loud here.

@gibson Pujols has made it pretty clear he wants to stay with the Cardinals forever, and if there were ever a player to say "gee ok" to it'd be him. Don't worry about him walking in FA.

I don't know why the Phillies wouldn't want to sign Myers as a starter. Having Myers with Lee, Hamels, Blanton, and Happ, is better than having Jamie Moyer. Since Moyer is under contract they can keep him in his role he played down the stretch this season.

RockiesMagicNumber: we all know that it is a given to give Pujols anything he wants, but that doesn't mean it will happen in the STL organization. My point is that if, and I say if, he does walk, then what are you stuck with? A declining 30yr old for approx 17-20mm a season? That has bad situation written all over it for STL fans. Let him sign with the Mets, save your money for 2011 FA. Buy some more cheap pitching along with everyone else. There are plenty of low dollar high potential bats in the FA this year, so maybe look into those.
Also, for the Phillies, Garland was just bought out. That could be a great upside option. Plenty of good cheap upside pitching out there so they shouldn't have any problems filling the Meyers gap. I say Myers then signs with LAD.
