Odds & Ends: Orioles, Rangers, Nationals

Let us entertain you between World Series games...

  • Pitcher Rich Hill, outfielder Jeff Fiorentino and catcher Guillermo Rodriguez all rejected a minor league assignment by the Orioles and elected free agency instead. Alfredo Simon, who was also removed from the 40-man roster last week, accepted an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk. Hill could draw some interest this winter.
  • MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports that former Colorado manager Clint Hurdle is likely to be the next hitting coach of the Rangers.
  • Don Mattingly passed on a chance to interview for Washington's managerial opening, according to Alden Gonzalez and Ken Gurnick of MLB.com.

I expect someone to give Rich a chance. Maybe the Padres should give him a call.

Everyone knows that Mattingly passed because he's in line to take over for Torre. Why not wait? It will still be a good team in a few years. The Nats on the other hand, well it's gonna be awhile

well i see rich hill as a 5th starter because he has a good curveball

Im a cubs fan and watched Rich Hill absolutely fall apart for unknown reasons, I hope he can find his talent again, but sadly I think he's finished

Tomahawk you read my mind about Rich Hill..I think the padres rotation is pretty set, but it couldn't hurt to have another lefty in camp.

Smart move by Donnie Baseball... interviewing for the Nats job would have been like Jimbo Fisher interviewing for a job at the local high school.

My boy Rich Hill...that's a discussion post waiting to happen tomorrow morning.

Can't wait for that one, Tim.

I just wish he hadn't "lost it" in 2008. I find myself thinking about how good he could have been. But it's not good for you to question something you can't change.
