« Manny Ramirez Will Return To Dodgers in 2010 | Main | Tigers Talk: Rodney, Lyon, Polanco, Everett »
Troy Renck of The Denver Post reports that the Rockies have declined the 2010 options for catcher Yorvit Torrealba and reliever Alan Embree. Torrealba's option was worth $4MM, Embree's $3MM. Instead, the players will receive buyouts worth $500K and $250K, respectively.
Torrealba's agent indicated that his client has not ruled out returning to the club, but the Rockies are committed to Chris Iannetta as their starter. Yorvit hit .291/.351/.380 in 242 plate appearances on the year, while Embree threw just 24.2 innings in 2009 before a liner broke his leg and forced him to miss the rest of the season.

Mets for Yorvit?
They seem to be looking for a veteran catcher.

I wonder if Yorvit would backup Ruiz for the Phillies

I could see Yorv in a mets uniform. They nearly signed him before he resigned with the rockies. He'd be a big improvement over Schneider and would cost around 3 mill.

I wouldn't mind Yorvit coming back to the Giants. If he would accept a 1 year deal, fantastic. If not, 2 years doesn't seem bad (one until Posey's ready, the other backing up/mentoring Posey).

I wonder if the Giants would try to bring him back if they decided to parts way with Bengie?, i think he would be a nice stop gap till Posey is ready.

Yorvit would make sense for Houston on a 1 year deal as well. He could be the starter while Castro continues to develop in the minors.

Torrealba recently purchased a home for his family in Boca after his son was kidnapped in Venezuela. So with that in mind he might sign with the marlins to be close to his family and their new home.

I would like to see the Brewers bring Torrealba in for a year. Kendall is an offensive black hole, and his defense is beginning to falter. Mike Rivera is pretty good behind the plate, and he has a track record of being a .300 hitter in limited action, but he only hit .229 last season, so I'm not sure he can be handed the job for a whole season (But, if he can hit like he did in '06, then give him the job). We do need somebody as a stop-gap until Jonathon Lucroy is ready.

The Padres are in the market for a veteran catcher and Yorvit would represent an upgrade offensively. He could also be had at a reasonable price. Padres could offer 2 years $5 mil or something comparable.
