| Royals Trade Mark Teahen To White Sox »

Next up in our Trade Market series, right fielders. The free agent market presents options such as Jermaine Dye, Brian Giles, Vladimir Guerrero, and Xavier Nady.
- Brad Hawpe, Rockies. Hawpe, 30, hit .285/.384/.519 this year in 588 plate appearances. He's set to earn $7.5MM in 2010 and has a $10MM club option for '11 that he can void if traded. The knock on Hawpe is his poor defense. Last month in response to rumors, Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd said, "We have no desire to move him at all." Speculations persists because the Rockies have Seth Smith, Dexter Fowler, Carlos Gonzalez, and Ryan Spilborghs in the outfield.
- Ryan Ludwick, Cardinals. Ludwick gets a mention because he was part of trade talks a year ago. The 31-year-old slipped to .265/.329/.447 this year after mashing 37 homers in '08. He's under team control through 2011.
- Milton Bradley, Cubs. The Cubs seem likely to trade Bradley after he slugged just .397 in his first season for them and caused problems off the field. Since he's owed $21MM over the 2010 and '11 seasons, the Cubs will have to match him up with another bad contract.
- Jose Guillen, Royals. Guillen's bad contract only has one year left, at $12MM next year. He was hobbled by hip and knee injuries this year.
- Travis Buck, Athletics. Buck seemed to have a bright future after a .288/.377/.474 rookie season in '07. Instead, he's been affected by shin splints, a concussion, a shoulder injury, and an oblique strain. He hit .272/.345/.418 at Triple A this year.
- Gary Matthews Jr., Angels. You know the story - Matthews is owed $23MM over the next two seasons and wants to be some team's starting center fielder. He's listed here because he has spent 562 innings in right over the past two seasons.
Im supprised Corey Hart is'nt on here.

Ludwick - a great example of striking while the iron is hot. He could have been pawned off on some GM last year looking for power. Now he is nothing more than below average RF'er.

Hey Tim,
Have you ever considered bunching RF and LF into one column for corner outfielders? I feel like a lot of these guys are kind of interchangeable with those positions.

Well, he was injured last year and struggled to get into a groove. He'll recover this season. He was on pace for at least 100 RBI by the break.

I will boycott the Anels if Vlad doesn't come back

Hawpe should be interesting to teams that have enough payroll space to fit him in that aren't looking for star to carry the team. His road stats are descent and he hits righties well. He would seem to be an ideal replacement for Bradley though I can't see any way that the Cubs could work a trade with the Rockies. Still I wouldn't mind seeing them acquire him somehow.

RBIs = really poor way to evaluate individual talent.
LA fielder. No speed. OPS under 800. His value is not that great.
Compare that to last year when his OPS was nearly 200 points higher and you can see how this was an opportunity lost.

i think if somehow the cardinals can resign holliday, which i dont think they will do, they should make a strong push for hawpe. he would be a great 5 hole hitter behind those two. then they can let derosa walk

Brian Giles was pretty terrible last season. Coupled together with some bum knees and pending domestic violence case, I would be shocked to see him get a big league deal next season.

I would add Corey Hart as well, I think there is a very good chance he goes in a trade for pitching.

What are the chances the red sox make a trade for prince and maybe hart? I dont really think they need hart know they got hermida.

"What are the chances the red sox make a trade for prince and maybe hart?"
Well what are the odds of lightning striking an exact spot on the ground that doesn't have metal under it?
If the Sox get a slugging first baseman Agon is more likely.

So are we looking at like 4-6 prospects for agon? would the padres throw another player in or something?

Hawpe in Cubbie blue would be AMAZING! The only way I see this working though is if we get a Bradley for an overpaid pitcher swap. We can't get an outfielder who's paid, say 10+ million a year, and plant him on the bench.

Harrison,
You crack me up.

Hawpe is going to be a Yankee!
Posted by: dan l | November 07, 2009 at 12:13 AM
The Yankees are even going to come close to getting Hawpe and if they do I'd be very surprised. I could see him being traded to somewhere like Tampa who need a good right fielder but with that said he isn't the cheapest guy to add. I honestly would like to see him moved and for the Rox to bring a power right handed bat like Dye (who once was in the Rockies organization I do believe) But I don't know if they are going to find any buyers that will give enough for O'Dowd to make the move. I am pretty upset how Hawpe just fell off last year and would like to see someone who would hit better than .280 or at least hit 30 or more HRs which hasn't yet
