« Iwamura Interested In Exploring Long-Term Deal | Main | Odds & Ends: Myers, Lackey, Hardy, Holliday »
Joe Cowley of The Chicago Sun Times reports that the White Sox have announced that Mark Kotsay was given a one year, $1.5MM contract to return to the team in 2010. It's essentially the same contract he signed with Boston last January.
Kotsay, acquired from the Red Sox just before the trade deadline, hit .292/.349/.434 in 127 plate appearances with the Pale Hose. He played mostly first base for Chicago, but also saw action in all three outfield spots.

This is a no-brainer. Kotsay is too good of a utility-bench player to not re-sign.

$1.5M is a very reasonable price to pay for a fourth OF, as long as his back is ok.

His bat certainly looked ok this year. Good solid player. Nice move to keep him.

I was afraid he might not resign him. Good.

Cheap sign, but why is Kotsay better than anyone else that might be available as a fourth outfielder? Kenny is taking on a lot payroll and veterans I thought he was getting the team younger?

Martin - it's a one-year contract for a utility player. Not like he can't make the team younger. It's a solid low-risk pick-up.
