Metsvilleslugger:
Well, let’s see how things go with the Maine man. Personally, I have come to feel that [freak] injury is just part of his makeup but it would be great to be proven wrong. One thing am not in love with is his attitude towards himself. I understand enough about perfectionism & rigid expectations to know that for many people it damages their performance instead of enhancing it. I see that in Maine and a lot of times I think he sabotages himself with his own expectations, right there on the mound. I wish he’d lay off that mind set.Kelvim? Yeah…the Angels weren’t able to salvage him (for the rotation) last year, and it’s hard to envision how well he’ll perform when he [hopefully] is called on to pitch back-to-back days. This will be an experiment for sure.

John Maine is a great guy with the potential to be a great pitcher. But he is a question mark, one of four question marks behind Santana. The Mets need a legitimate #2 starter to be serious. It’s tempting to drink the Kool-Aid and convince ourselves that Maine and Pelfrey will pitch to their potential and win between 15-18 games but the smart money says get a legitimate #2 and that may mean trading one of them.

The Mets could trade both of them and I feel confident I’d survive.
Anyway, point taken.
