What do you guys think of Barmes? Staple at 2B for the Rockies for a while?
Rotowire’s projection for 2010 for Barmes:
484 AB, 17 HR, 62 R, 60 RBI, 11 SB, .264 avg
I think he’s more apt to get 525 AB, 24 HR, 75 R, 80 RBI, 7 SB, .285

i would have to agree with you cderry…maybe a slight dip in a couple of the areas…i would say maybe 20 to 22ish and hit .275…regardless if he can put a year up with either of our projections the rox will be very happy. The thing im curious about is why he isnt on a 2 yr or more contract b/c barmes and his agent were pushing for a multi yr deal, so i was very surprised to see that it is only a 1 yr deal…no option or anything…this might show that the rox see EYJ as the future 2nd baseman…very intriguing

short term contract is good move, I don’t think barmes is in Rox future plan. He has relatively good power as 2B, but his OBP is desperate. I prefer EYJ but hes not ready for regular 2b because of poor fielding. probably in the future Hector Gomez gonna take 2b spot.

im not saying a short term wasnt a bad idea…and i know Gomez or EYJ is the future so i understand why the Rox are choosing to go with a 1 yr deal…like you said Hector or EYJ is the future and in a year i believe one of the 2 will be ready to start and play full time at 2nd

your projections seem a bit high but roto’s also seem low. I would say split the difference and you’re there. I know one thing about Barmes, he’s as blue collared as they come. I played college ball with him and he’s a great guy to have around. you never have to worry about chemistry and you never, ever have to second guess his effort. Always balls to the wall with Clint. Representing OCC, atta boy!

Shucks, the guy plays hard baseball AND he’s good at college chemistry? Color me impressed. With said, I feel like Barmes is a real wild card. This year could be where he finally has a monster year, or it could be another one where he does great in some categories but tanks in others (i.e. 2009 OBP).

De Le Rosa for $5.6m is too much

I agree…
I don’t think he would’ve made that much in Arbitration, considering he made only 2MM last season.

Tough to say. Might have gotten him for less, but it’s probably still a decent price for a talented (if inconsistent) pitcher. I do think if they were going to give him that much, they should have worked out something for a 2 year deal at least to help keep costs down in case he puts together a good year.

5.6 mil is quite a lot…and i agree with you jim, they should have tried to work out a 2 yr deal…cause if he has a good yr this yr then we could see him looking for 8 to 10 mil a yr and i dont see the rox paying that. He still has some questions but he has a ton of upside and potential…it would have been nice to see a 2 yr deal worth 10ish mil

Certainly not a bargain but I wouldn’t really call 5.6M overpaying for those kinds of numbers.
