Half of Posey’s value is in being a catcher. Just play the guy there. Sabean makes running a team look harder than it is.

You floated the idea of Huff to the outfield? It’s been floated a thousand times a day on KNBR by every caller since the middle of spring training. The theory is that it’ll slow Posey’s development as a catcher. I do like the idea of Huff to left and Uribe to first (or Uribe to third, Pablo to first) when Renteria and Sanchez get back.

the main reason you would want posey at 1st is that should extend his career even longer…but im sorry if you have a guy running through the minors like posey i dont care if you have a 10 million dollar catcher as your starter if the rookie is better and will make your team better you call him up…gms across the majors care more about the money on the field than winning(which oddly enough the more you win the more money your team makes)

Yes, because GMs care about their jobs.
Imagine walking into work and telling your boss you just wasted 10% of your budget

I think they also care about long-term success. Sure, they might win another game, maybe two if their rookie performs really well. If that isn’t enough to push them into the post-season, it isn’t worth the extra money.
