I’d love to be “underpaid” for $500K to $2MM annually.
ilikebaseball
Seriously. Must be nice to be an underpaid millionaire.

If you were one of the fifty most important decision makers in a multi-billion dollar a year industry in which nine hundred other people average $4 million a year, you wouldn’t.

How much should General Managers really make?

GMs aren’t overpaid; players/managers are overpaid; fans are overcharged.

I’m guessing the Yanks hook Derek up with something silly like 5/$20 or similar. They really shouldn’t go that long even if he has worked to improve his defense. Pretty soon all the work in the world isn’t going to make him a passable shortstop.
Hard to imagine that guys like Ed Wade and Dayton Moore are overpaid. I’d say if they draw one dollar of salary they’re stealing.

when i read the title had the word “prior” in it, i immediately thought: ” oh great, this bum is trying another come back.” anyone else think this or just me?

I’d still like to see him comeback and get a little redemption. He was a good pitcher. I don’t know whose fault it is, his own, Dusty, the pitching coach, whoever, but the injuries couldn’t be controlled. If he ever gets right and is able to learn how to pitch without overpowering stuff I gotta think he could be good again, not the old Mark Prior but still a descent middle of the rotation starter.

just imagine how different baseball would be if the twins followed scouting reports and drafted mark prior #1 overall instead of joe mauer. than the cubs would have mauer, they wouldn’t have felt pressure to sign farts like dempster and lilly to 30million+, zambrano wouldn’t be the most overpaid reliever. well, guess we will never know

If the Yankees can lock up Jeter to 4/80MM it should be considered a win. Hopefully he doesn’t ask for a substantial raise or want to be under contract till 42 like A-Rod.

And it’s not like the Yankees can’t afford that either. He’s their franchise player and they may as well pay him like one to let him finish out his career there. They will probably move him to DH or something eventually, so I wouldn’t worry too much about his supposed declining defense.
