Too bad it didn’t work out for Hill here in STL. Best of luck to him in Boston. If he could just figure out his control issues, he could be very good. It’s not too late. ^_^

He was amazing in 2007. Another young pitcher who regressed completely after being exposed to Larry Rothschild. Lou Piniella crushed his confidence as well (multiple early game hooks and disparaging remarks.) Rich was placed in the worst possible situation to succeed. If I were him, I’d have stayed with Dave Duncan as long as possible, but if he can get back to the bigs, I can’t blame him. All the talent in the world. I wish him well.

The guy had a lot of talent – but always a 10 cent head. The Cubbie excuses were overflowing for this guy. I think they kept calling him “young” while he was 28. After his 2007 season, he had loads of trade value. They could have gotten Brian Roberts for him – but Tommy Boy Hendry called Hill “untouchable”. Tommy Boy ended up giving him away for nothing a couple of seasons later.

Yeah, well, the Cubs overvaluing prospects is nothing new, and is a particular specialty of Hendry. Let’s not forget this is the guy who said they wouldn’t trade Felix Pie for Dimaggio.

The end of Okajima may be near.

Theo’s is thinking about an alternative to Okajima. And if . . . and a big IF is this kid could become like JP Howell.

I saw him in Fenway with the Orioles, I have never seen balls hit so hard, I still think Bay’s ball is stuck in scoreboard, cannot get it out, embedded. My only thought that night, hope the Yankees sign him. Oh well the kids in Pawtucket will enjoy him, lots of balls in the stands.

This left hander has a chance to have the most 12-6 breaking balls pounded off the green monster. He is not a good fit in that park. The kid on paper is the real deal . . . but has Rich Hill has shown he is a tremendous disappointment. This is a low risk high reward situation. Too bad the kid can’t play second base. Bring the dude in for the hold in the 7th inning and use him has a defense upgrade in the 8th and 9th. Now that would be a story. So instead the Chowder nation watches Bill Hall.
