Someone care to explain to me why the Sox didn’t jump all over a Quentin for Dunn swap? That trade is so lopsided in favor of the Sox it makes the typical sagging chest of an 80 year old woman look like the chest of a female porn star.
EDIT: Sure it may also take some prospects…but c’mon. Quentin’s career year is an average year for Adam Dunn.

Dunn is a FA at the end of the year. Its not hard to see why they said no. A couple of years for Quentin or a 1/2 season of Dunn. Dunn is superior to him though

A half season of Dunn is easily worth more than the production Quentin provides. Forgive me if I don’t believe in Quentin.
Also, who says the Sox can’t resign Dunn? It would be pretty easy.

I could have seen it when Quentin wasn’t such a butcher in the OF. Back in the day he was a decent glove. He still has 30+ HR power (if he can stay healthy). He makes $3m/year and is covered under arbitration for 2 additional years. The guy still has some value. He just needs to remember how to field and boost his dismal BABIP up from it’s current 224 mark.
When you stick Dunn back in the outfield his value really decreases. His UZR has just been awful (although this year he’s done relatively well at 1B). Virtually all of his massive offensive contribution is wiped away by his defense when he patrols the outfield.
Dunn’s value comes from just letting him hit. If you have to play him in the field there are plenty of better choices out there when it comes to an all-around ballplayer.

Considering how they would DH him (Mark Kotsay is their current DH), the last two paragraphs are moot.
If he can stay healthy-this right here is why I don’t believe in Quentin.

“When teams call the Jays to talk trades, Toronto’s young starting rotation is the most frequent topic of conversation.”
Wait, is that someone else beside Marcum? I can see why Marcum would get traded but there is not a chance Romero, Cecil, Morrow get dealt.

Seems like teams are asking about guys besides Marcum, but that doesn’t mean the Jays would trade any of them.

What in the world makes Washington think that they could get Gordon Beckham for Adam Dunn? They are out of their minds!!! I couldn’t really even see giving up multiple years of Carlos Quentin for 1/2 year of Dunn, much less Beckham.

They consider Dunn a core piece. Dunn had 3HR to kind of state his case tonight. The White Sox would be doing this kind of deal to win now, though, so I don’t see why they would be giving up current members of their team to make this move.

I think the D’Backs would be prudent to go slow with an interim GM. I would trade the free agents that I wasn’t planning on keeping around though.

The Bernadina/Morgan thing is kind of quirky to me. On the one hand, they are saying that they want to move Morgan to clear space for Bernadina. On the other hand, they are starting to platoon Bernadina with Michael Morse in RF. If they seriously want Bernadina in CF, why not play Bernadina in CF against lefties, sit Morgan, and play Morse in right? As long as they give Morgan time against lefties, especially in the leadoff spot, these kind of rumors seem to me to be just blowing smoke.
