Martin would be a good fit for them

Who isnt looking for catching help this year, that would be a better question.
Patrick OKennedy
and V Mart doesn’t make the list?
$1529282
When was the last time the Marlins signed a free agent for anything more than $1MM or so? The list is viable free agents for the Marlins specifically… they’re not going to hand out a three- or four-year deal to the top free agent catcher. Everyone on that list is looking at a one-year deal, maybe with an option.
Well, Buck could end up with multiple years. But other than that, none of them have done anything to warrant more than a one-year, $3MM deal or so (at the most).

It’s a good question. Marlins 2010 opening day payroll was $55.6 million; 2011 lineup:
1B: Sanchez – 1+
2B: Uggla/Coghlan – $11 million for Uggla; Coghlan Super 1+
SS: Ramirez – $11.0 million
3B: Uggla/Coghlan – $11 million for Uggla; Coghlan Super 1+
LF: Morrison – 0+
CF: Maybin? – 1+
RF: Stanton – 0+
SP: Johnson – $7.75 million
SP: Nolasco – 3rd time arb – $6.0 to $7.0 million
SP: Sanchez – 2nd time arb – $3.0 million
CL: Nunez – 2nd time arb – $4.0 million
That’s around $45 million; they have the new park coming in 2012 with most of their lineup pre-arb eligible plus they have taken a ton of abuse from the MLBPA and the media for pocketing revenue sharing cash. They have cash; the need for a veteran leader; and the need for a veteran hitter.
I agree that it probably will not happen but it makes sense for them to sign Martinez

I don’t know much about the Marlins farm, but anyone know of any highly touted prospects? Maybe a Jesus Montero for ?? swap. It would kill two birds with one stone for both teams.

No, both Stanton and Morrison were their top prospects. Obviously, they have graduated. The only people I can think are Matt Dominguez(3B) and Brad Hand(SP)

Buck, Iannetta, Napoli and Martin are the only guys I would consider.

Buck, Iannetta, Napoli and Martin are the only guys I would consider. I guess I could settle for Torrealba.

Now just imagine how awful Paulino would be if he didn’t take PED’s.

If I remember correctly, they were just diet pills. You could why with a simple google image search!
