I say go with a 4 year, $44 million contract, almost in the middle for both years and money. But probably too easy to do.
The_Silver_Stacker
5 years for a guy that is already a terrible second bagger, dont do it fish
Dave_Gershman
He is one of the best 2B of all time, he is improving his defense. And how often do you find a power hitting second baseman? Come on.
tim c
i agree..other than utley and cano, who else hits 30 hr on a reg basis at the 2 bag???
R_y_a_n
No.
Dave_Gershman
Why not?
Slopeboy
He should realize who he’s dealing with and not expect to finalize anything until the winter. Most likely until the Marlins find out what they’re going to get from Revenue Spending.
rsanchez1
He probably already did realize that. With the Marlins finances coming out, they will be grilled about their salary and the money they stole from Miami-Dade taxpayers. Either Uggla, the taxpayers, or both will benefit from the backlash. Just as the Marlins were pressured into giving Josh Johnson what he wanted on his deal by the MLBPA, they will be pressured into spending more of the money they got, and will get, from revenue spending.
bjsguess
He could get $10m this year in arb. To assume that he will take less money as a FA in years 2 and 3 is absurd.
3/$34 or 4/$46 would be a decent deal for the Fish.
Dave_Gershman
I disagree. He deserve’s the 5 or 6 year deal. He has done nothing but stay healthy and produce his whole career, he is a 2B, and he is someone who should be around for a long time to come.
diehardmets
I agree with Spandemonium, he has shown the ability to produce as a top tier 2B whil having almost no injuries.
BTW, Span you should come hang out with the cool people on the forums. I feel like I’m the only teenager with a brain over there, and smart opinions are always welcome.
Dave_Gershman
Thanks by the way.
And now that you’ve recomended it, I’m definetly going to give it a go.

I dont like giving him the 5 years…and im guessing through all this money BS thats going on with the marlins they will end up paying them to shut people up…like they did with JJ. But 5 years for a guy like him is tough, cause i dont envision seeing him at 35 being as good as he is now…
AmericanMovieFan
4 years/$46MM w/ a 5th year club option at $14MM which could give him that 5 years/$60MM deal he’s seeking.
JDortmunder
Could he ever move to third (make the cross-diamond throw)? If you are going to give him a long-term deal I’m just wondering where he could go –with no DH– if the 2b defense became a real problem.
I Want Rebates
Agree that this is the best solution – Uggla to 3B, then when Coghlan returns, move him to his natural position of 2B. OF remains Morrison, Maybin, Stanton.
IF of Sanchez, Coghlan, Ramirez, Uggla. Only hole is C – Napoli would be ideal in the offseason. And there is your 2011-14 playoff team…
