Takahashi aside for a minute, it appears that the 15-day exclusive period would shrink but the filing date would remain the same. That’d allow them to move up all the other dates.

The Phillies should take a flyer on Takahashi. JC Romero has been disappointing this year, and they are much more likely to buy out his option rather than exercise it. Takahashi’s been very good against left handed hitters, and unlike the Mets, the Phillies would use him as a left handed specialist, and he could fill in for the occassional spot start. The Phillies will be looking to completely revamp their bullpen, and would have no problem giving Takahashi a two year deal.

He’s a good bullpen guy. Good against lefties, fairly capable as a set up man. Capable of closing in a pinch. But he is a complimentary guy in the bullpen, not someone to put heavy expectations. Since he is a fly ball pitcher, he’s got to go to a neutral or pitcher friendly park. I’d also say he should stay in the NL. The Dodgers, Giants, and Braves are good matches. I’d say the Cards, but they don’t like to spend money in the bullpen. The Reds and Nationals could also use him to bolster their bullpens.

Mets should bring him and Feliciano both back as the lefties out of the bullpen…
