This is the right move IMO. Edwin Rodriguez has the respect of the players, including Hanley Ramirez, which maybe the most important. He also knows the Marlins system really well and should succeed with us.

i think this is the right move too. he needs a full season to show what his mark will be. he has uggla and hanley in his corner, as well as the rest of the team.

AND Perry Hill is returning…
Dan
Yeah – Edwin is coming back… Also returning to the team is:
~ Randy St. Claire (pitching coach);
~ Brandon Hyde (bench coach);
~ John Mallee (hitting coach);
~ Joe Espada (third base coach)…
And you’re right fishfan4life – Perry Hill is bringing his talents back to [deep breath] Sun[JoeRobbieStadium/ProPlayerPark/ProPlayerStadium/DolphinStadium/DolphinsStadium/LandSharkStadium]LifeStadium – where he will have the same title, as he did from 2002-06, which was infield & first base coach.
I’m excited for Hill to work with our players again, especially knowing Uggs & HanRam swear by him… I also think Gaby will get that much better once he works with Hill… I believe I also read somewhere that Matt Dominguez is going to get a strong look at third for us… What is everyone’s thoughts about Doming possibly playing the hot corner for us?

Means to me that Gaby is likely gone. I don’t see the Marlins moving LoMo or Coghs because we need lefties to have a balance in our lineup.

gaby was one of the only players that was reliable last year. i don’t see them parting ways with gaby or cogz. i guess we will have to wait and see. a good problem to have.

-Sign Uggla to long term contract
-Figure out what they’re gonna do with Gaby
-And as nearly every team will be doing, search for bullpen arms.
Just a short list of off-season tasks.

Gaby is a hometown boy though, that’d be a tough one to take. I’m interested to see how Dominguez will do. His minor league numbers aren’t very impressive, especially with the glove. I think a lot of it will depend on Cogs coming off of the injury. Very interesting situation the Fish have with a lot of young talent. Someone is going to be out of place… hopefully the Fish get some good pitching out of any deal.
Dan
Yeah, I forgot that Cogs was moving to third… I know Dom was already a great defender, but has struggled on offense… I doubt he’ll make the team, especially since LoMo & Cogs are both already soo established with the bat…
fishfan4life
I wouldn’t be surprised if they just kept Edwin for this season only to go after Ozzie when he’s available next off-season. That’s actually what I’m counting on. But I still hope Edwin can gel and we won’t have to think about replacing him next off-season.
IIMadzII
I’m not surprised by the Edwin signing. .500 manager with a hurting team and no bullpen. I think it’s more of a filler role until the new stadium opens. We’ll see.
Slopeboy
This is an opportunity for Rodriguez to showcase his talents as a manager. As Fishfan4life & MadzII alluded to, it’s not a long term commitment from Florida. He has to show he can do the job in order to survive in the future.
ludafish
This is a good situation…the players love Edwin, hes a player manager, and will fight for his players (fredi never did anything…). If he works out we have a future manager. If he ends up not doing well then they sign a big time manager for the new stadium. just like everyone agrees. i like the guy, i think he was the best candidate, and hopefully they get some arms to support the team.
