If Jeter played for the Mets, he’d be a Starting Pitcher.
John Gyna
Jeter-Met. Why would that even be printed? Dumb.
Ricky
Alderson is stuck with bad contracts and can’t do much this off season except bargain shop in January.

I usually don’t critique columnist’s work because they are pro’s at their jobs, even when I disagree, but Joel Sherman’s piece was just awful. He’s already passing judgement on Alderson’s hire of Collins by issuing a lame warning about Collin’s past history and how it may come back to haunt him. He sounds like a disappointed fan that didn’t have his candidate selected as manager more than an objective professional.
Infield Fly
Hear Hear!!Maybe I have said this before but it bears repeating. It’s a cop-out to make a doom & gloom prediction about someone’s future performance based on things he did in the faraway past. It’s like saying “nobody ever changes or learns from past mistakes.” The truth is that people DO learn, and sometimes it is the harshest failures that cause the biggest improvements in a person’s capacity. As one example (although not exactly comparable) Joe Torre wasn’t a great manager in the beginning, but he went on from his failures and so-so performance to have great success. Others have as well. No matter what Collins did in his past he too has the opportunity to the same. In an arena like sports, where players are offered a second chance even the most blatant violations, I wonder why Joel Sherman can’t give Terry Collins the same courtesy? I say let the man do his job — his NEW job — and judge his performance on what he does NOW, not the past. It’s 2010, Joel. Get with the freakin’ calendar!!

I would like to tell mr sherman, that there are many many baseball men that have skelaton’s in there closet’s I’ll bet money that EVEN mr sherman is not beyond reproach, so stop whinning , and act like a professional. we don’t have to agree with their choice of manager’s , but we have to except it .

Which means the brass will do whatever they can so he will become a Met.
Stay tuned.

C’mon now, Jeter is only a Met in my MVP baseball 2005 (2011) season. When I choose to make him play in my A St. Luice team.

That is what happens when you sign Jason Bay
Slopeboy
The only problem with the Bay signing was that the Mets outbid themselves. Boston was not going to sign him for $15 per year. The Mets, needing to make some kind of splash to counter the Yankees WS press in the papers, decided to make news with a big signing in order to get themselves on the back pages of the local newspapers. They didn’t need to make that kind of offer to Bay, because it was evident that the Red Sox were not going to bid big money for Bay, as there weren’t too many teams interested in Bay at the price he was asking. The Red Sox only made a half-hearted offer after it was clear that the Mets’ offer was going to be accepted by the Bay camp.
In Bay’s defense, if he has a good year, all the negatives will be forgotten.
