Wow are the phils dumb did they really think that was going to work. Heres what i imagined them saying, sigh… well its worth a shot.
PookieGonzales
Im not sure i understand you. If they didn’t offer Werth abritration they wouldn’t get a draft pick.
Wilson
what are you talking about?
moonraker45
swing and a miss

LOL .. FAIL
Mel
Phillies just traded both draft picks, along with Wilson Valdez for Greinke and Soria.
pastlives
ya…good one
Mel
Yeah, I was totally trying to make people think that.
Honestly though, that probably could’ve worked if it was my intention. Earlier today someone thought that offering arbitration to a player means attempting to trick him into returning….

The Phillies had to offer arbitration or they wouldn’t get the picks DUH !!

Woops i read the post wrong i thought it said there was no reason to offer arb. Really dumb on my part, feel free to riddicual.

For a second there i was wondering………

Why do they want to bring back Chad Durbin? Ruben Amaro stressed he’d make the pen deeper this season. Why would he bring back a guy that cost them NLCS?
Ryan
Durbin is a solid middle inning guy, occasionally filling the set up role. He was very good out of the bullpen in all of 2008 and 2010, having a bit of a rough go in 2009. He seems like he ran out of gas late in 08 and 10 however, but over 162, I definitely want him available if I can have him.
$19914389
That’s a touch harsh. He wasn’t the only man who didn’t perform in the NLCS. By that token, you could also say Halladay or Oswalt cost them the NLCS.

Cliff Lee cost the ranges the world series
John Anthony
I don’t see why they wouldn’t offer durbin arbitration… It’s a really deep draft this year and I think Durbin is more concerned with getting a multi year deal and from what I’ve read the market for him is really strong.
wayne_gomes
I find it hard to believe the market for Durbin will be very strong. He hasn’t started since 2007, and doesn’t have any single very good skill (control, Ks, GBs). He is a dime a dozen ROOGY with a decent breaking ball and below average control
MikeDugent
ROOGY, really? A long reliever that consistently went full and sometimes multi innings? Do you even understand the ‘OOGY’ part of that phrase, because Durbin is anything but.
nm344
Dubz is solid, but the Phils will hopefully will be able to repalce him with some home-grown talent in DeFratus and Schwimmer
Jason Klinger
Durbin never pitches to one hitter. He’s a one- to three-inning reliever, depending on score and situation. Phillies would be better off keeping him, the known commodity, than trying to strike it rich in the FA market.
phil33
Hes been the Phils most consistent pitcher out of the pen the last couple years. That pen was thin last year. Would like to see how Amaro fills the rest of it out. I just hope it doesn’t involve more Herndon, Zagurski, or Baez.
Bozo31215
What’s your problem with Herndon? The kid is 24 and went from Double-A to the MLB while he was still developing his offspeed pitches(and they got better towards the end of the season). Half the time he really got hit around was on terrible luck on ground-balls. Don’t be so quick to give up on a younger guy that can get it up to 95-96 on the gun and has a great sinker.
