I feel bad for Mariner fans :/
Eric
M’s fans just have to sit tight for 2011. It will be a year of adjustment for baseball in the Pacific Northwest. On the bright side, the 2011-2012 off-season will bring financial flexibility. Bradley (12M), Wilson (5M), money to the Cubs for Silva (5.5M), and money to the Royals for Betancourt (1M). That’s 23.5M in wasted player payroll.

It’s going to take a whole lot more than money to make them competitive. You do remember that they were the first ever 100 loss team with a 100+mil payroll.

Yes, it will take a whole bunch. In the meantime, Zduriencik turned trio of middling prospects into Cliff Lee who was turned into Smoak, Beavins, Lueke and someone else. The M’s will have a few kids on their roster this year that should be ready. The minor league system is starting to get full. There are a lot of good things to look forward to as an M’s fan. The thing that we aren’t having to deal with yet is Bavasi giving 5 years to Beltre, 4 years to Sexson, 4 years to Silva, 3 years to Washburn… and on and on.

They are two full years removed from that team, and one of those years where above .500. That fact really has nothing to do with anything involving the current team of the outlook for the future.

Actually, the future looks very bright for the M’s. ‘m not talking about ’11, but ’12, ’13, and beyond. The farm system has turned the corner and the M’s Latin American scouting team is outshining everyone with the players they have brought on the last 2 years.

You do remember that the person to spend the 100+ million was Bill Bavasi.

The more we win, the more F.A.’s will wanna come here. Imagine all those contracts + a trade or 2 for some prospects.

And another high draft pick or two.
