Franklin is a servicible closer as long as he is not over used throughout the season. But I have a hard time seeing the Cardinals as his retirement spot if he continues after this year. A two year span could mean guys like Motte, Boggs, McClellan, or even Sanchez could develop into that role and woudl be much younger and much less of a risk.

Agreed. I highly doubt he will remain with the Cardinals after this season, especially with the direction Jason Motte is heading.

Can’t imagine many teams, especially competitors, that would be willing to offer him a job as a closer after his season. The market for relievers is extremely crowded, and he’s far from the most attractive of the lot.
