The only thing I disagree with in this analysis is that Gwynn was signed as part of a three-way platoon in left. Not only are three-way platoons kind of illogical, Gwynn’s primary value is defensive. He’s getting starts in left now because Gibbons is rehabbing in triple-A. If Gibbons comes back, I’d expect to see Gwynn used as a late-innings defensive replacement mainly in center or right.
