I wish the Pirates had gone hard after Joel Piniero when he was a free agent. Then again, I also think they also should have traded Zach Duke to the Rangers, acquire Jeff Baker and sign Mike Hessman, Elijah Dukes and Hank Blalock.
I get a lot of things wrong.

Elijah Dukes? That’s just asking for trouble.

It was really hard seeing Freddy go, I still really miss him. But I’m really happy that he’s on a winning team, finally.

Who is Brandon Wood’s dad/granddad/uncle/whatever? I didn’t know his family was famous for anything.
roomwithamoose
so you can’t accept it could be moher/grandmom/aunt who was famous you sexist…(I’m kidding)

Jeff Clement is organizational depth at best for the Pirates. I was hoping Clement would be the 1B of the future for the Bucs, but that didn’t work out. Let’s Matt Curry or Aaron Baker can be the 1B long-term.
Here’s hoping a change of scenery is the remedy for Brandon Wood. This could be a huge win for the Bucs if he pans out.
What could the Pirates expect to get from the Red Sox in exchange for Chris Snyder? The Red Sox catching situation is perilous. Salty is making a case not to be the long-term answer behind the plate and Varitek is most likely done after this season. Snyder is an upgrade for the Red Sox. He’s more attractive to the Sox than Ryan Doumit and would yield a better return. The Pirates catching would suffer without Snyder, but if the return is right, why not? Huntington has proved he will make the unpopular deals (McLouth) if it will improve the organization.

I’m not sure the Pirates would trade Snyder, or allow him to walk after the season, unless they think Tony Sanchez is ready. After 14 games, Sanchez is hitting .255/.407/.319 at AA, and it appears doubtful he’ll arrive in Pittsburgh this year.

gonfalon, I agree that Sanchez is far from ready for the bigs. The Bucs probably won’t see him in the ‘Burgh until summer of 2012 at the earliest. I don’t know if a swap of catchers (Salty for Snyder) is in the Pirates best interest either. Salty may be Ryan Doumit 2.0.

I’m sure when Freddy looks at his ring finger, he’s over the trade!

Jeff Clement over Troy Tulowitzky
Reason No. ?? why the Mariners are where they are

hindsight is 20/20 isn’t it? A great hitting catcher is pretty rare. Just another one of those things where Seattle sports is cursed with horrible luck.

I like how Huntington referred to Brandon Wood as “it” multiple times…was he afraid to say “he” or “him” to personalize it too much and put too much pressure on “him” – Wood…anyone else read anything into that?

No thanks on Chris Snyder. We got guys in AA and AAA that could be just as good
And strike out way less. Plus we wouldn’t have to give up anything.
