How Bavasi kept that job for so long is beyond me…

…hey Ben, you may have missed the boat somewhat on the Stone article. Larry’s conclusion is not at all like what you state; that quote you give is what he attributes to ‘the consciousness of Mariners’ fans’. He’s implying that ‘unmitigated disaster’ is the false impression of the Bedard trade that has been layered on over time. His actual conclusion? “My conclusion is that a bad Mariners trade is turning out to be not quite as bad as the worst-case-scenario.”
I wouldn’t normally complain, but your analysis painted Stone’s article as saying something rather opposite of what it actually said. His entire analysis, step-by-step, showed that the M’s got better in Bedard than what Seattle fans assume, and gave up less than M’s fans’ memories bring back (remembering the glitter of shiny prospects waiving farewell). He doesn’t defend the trade… but he *does* clearly state that it didn’t end up as nearly bad as it initially looked like it would.
I guess all I’m really saying is that you might want to re-read that one, just for kicks. ^_^

I bet when Bavasi made the trade he thought Bedard would actually pitch.

I think Larry Stone is a bit late, how many times does that trade need to be revisited anyways?

Was he the only M’s GM between Pat Gillick and Jacl Z?

Oriole fans thank Bavasi everyday!
