.031 obp is pretty significant over the course of a career bud

Still, it doesn’t make Alomar a bunch better than Reyes, seeing as how that is really the only stat that is hugely different of the ones you provided, I’d venture to say that calling Reyes a poor man’s Alomar would not be that far off.

Old post and all I know but it’s featured under the featured posts. Jeter leading off any inning had a .381 OBP. Jeter was one of the best leadoff hiters in baseball last year. Leading off a ball game, his OBP was .406.

This isn’t incorrect, but it’s definitely skewed because he was a lot better overall batting 2nd.
1st: .280/.337/.380
2nd: .348/.408/.415
His OPS jumps 100 points batting 2nd. His production is much better when he’s batting second, which I’ll take 100 times out of 100 instead of a few at-bats where he is good leading off an inning or game. Get Gardner leading off.

Oh I agree 1000% Gardner should leave off, I’m just saying Jeter was a very good Leadoff hitter. It’s hitting with men on base that he is very poor in, and every single batter except the first plate appearance of the game has a chance to be hitting with men on base.
