He hits another 3 homers to go 30/30, I’m thinking 10 mil might be in his reach. He already has seasons of 70 and 50+ steals, and a .300 career average. Arbs eat that stuff up.

With all the possible awards Ellsbury could win this year, as well as the basic counting stats that he’s got right now (30/30, possibly 30/100, hitting over .310 and possibly .320 by year’s end), I’m starting to seriously hope Boston signs him to an extension. Arbitration is going to get very, very pricey for him. However, since Boras is his agent there’s no guarantee that they’ll get a nice price for an extension either. I’m just worried that if he can even come close to this season in 2012, that we’ll have to really dish it out for him come next offseason.

thank god arbitrators don’t know about UZR

I’m sure either Boras & Co. or Ellsbury per family is reading this and says: we have a winner no matter what. The injury risk will prompt Theo rethink of the max. he should offer (probably closer to $6.8M than we believed from 2010). Boston can still move Jacoby. The farm has a bunch of younger outfielders, including their recent product of Reddick, and the word “luxury” comes to mind… So, that’s a trade call, and you know what? The arbitration might be a win for Jacoby, yet his future across River Charles is not a no-doubter.

Ellsbury’s practically a lock for comeback player and he’s got a good shot at rounding it out with a Silver Slugger, Gold Glove and an outside shot at an MVP Award. This is going to get expensive.

if they decide to move him, he could be the best trade chip available on the market.

Bartolo Colon….
HerbertAnchovy
Is a fat washed-up pitcher. He’s been solid- but not outstanding. I’m no Red Sox fan, but Ellsbury is far more deserving of the comeback player award than Colon. He has been a catalyst for Francona.

colon wasnt in the league last year, ellsbury was my votes on colon

Ellsbury was barely in the league last year. And Ellsbury’s on the verge of being the AL MVP. A far more impressive comeback, particularly when one factors in the questions about how Colon may have pulled of his comeback medically.
NathanielS
He was a Bend Elk, which means nothing to anyone.

ROIDS!!!!!!!!!!!11111111
Just kidding. His season was very impressive and I see them just working out the long term deal instead of going to arb.
