On the one hand, I like it that Angelos trusts Showalter. For him, trusting his employees is a major issue, and can be a huge sticking point if it’s not there. Showalter is a proven good baseball man.
That said, it just seems like a monumental job for one person to be able to take on everyday managerial responsibilities on top of GM duties, doesn’t it?
Jeff 30
Levine or Byrnes please.
Kyle Haker
And why does showalter think he can do it? you need someone who knows business as well as baseball
Smrtbusnisman04
If I was neil Huntington, I would keep Derek Lee as my starting Firstbaseman, sell high on Pedro Alvarez, and do everything in my power to bring David Wright to Pittsburgh.

You can’t really sell high on a .196/.266/.291 corner infielder.
start_wearing_purple
Ok, so if Showalter turns down the GM role who would want it? If Showalter turns down the position then basically the new GM will run the risk of being overruled by the manager whenever.
The Secret Inspector
I’ll take it
start_wearing_purple
Let me rephrase. What half way decent GM with an ounce of self respect would want to run the risk of having zero power and all the responsibility when things go bad?
The Secret Inspector
I’ll still take it.

Question regarding Wright’s option. Couldn’t the Mets theoretically exercise the option now and then deal him? Or is there some clause in his contract that prohibits that?
Tom
That sounds disturbingly manipulative and would probably put a sour note between a Fan favorite Wright and the Mets organization.
M_Harden
Yeah, but if I’m the Mets FO, I’d do everything in my power to make the organization better than it was before, even if it means manipulating fan favorite players. If I’m Wright, yeah, I’d be pretty ticked off, but more at my agent for not negotiating a clause in my contract that prevents the Mets from doing that.
wnymetsfan
The only way it becomes void is if he is traded. If the Mets do not trade him then he is under contract with them through 2013.
M_Harden
You missed my point. It’s a club option, but if Wright is traded, then he can void the option and become a free agent. My question was that if the Mets were allowed to exercise the option now, and then trade him. Wright couldn’t void the option since, well, it’s no longer an option.
Based on what we know, the Mets COULD do that, but what I’m wondering is if there’s a clause in Wright’s contract that prohibits that.

all it takes is david wright for the rockies or angels to be playoff contenders again
kräftig. entschieden
A.) The Angels are playoff contenders. Currently.
B.) The Rockies probably need more pitching, or at least one of their youngsters to become a frontliner. Their rotation doesn’t really inspire fear in anyone’s hearts as it is.
Though a CarGo-Tulo-Wright 345 would be pretty awesome.
5_tool_MiLB_fool
what i meant to say is division favorites. probably shouldn’t have said contenders.
Gator4444
All it takes is D-Wright for the D-Backs to be World Series contenders. Move Roberts to 2nd and they have the prospects.
CitizenSnips
I don’t see where trading Wright helps the Mets, especially since trading him now would probably be selling low. Due to that option the return would be marginal and what replacement do they even have? I know his power is down though he’s on a bit of an upswing and it’s not like we’ve got any solid 3B guys in the wings.

At this point, doesn’t it seem prudent for Sizemore to move out of center and into one of the corner outfield spots? There’s arguably be a little less wear and tear on his body which could help prevent some of the injuries that continue to keep him off of the field. And we know he’s athletic enough – even post injury – to handle the outfield still. Torii Hunter moved on his own will but Sizemore is in a similar position (aging = diminishing defensive skills), minus Peter Bourjos knocking at the door.

if the tribe don’t work out something with sizemore he’ll probably become the next russell martin of the upcoming offseason. Would a position change affect with whom grady signs with if perhaps the sox offer him right and the yankees only offer left? Would the sox even bother getting serious about sizemore beyond raising sizemore’s price to the yanks a bit since they have reddick already?
