I still don’t fully understand what “all bets are off means”….
notsureifsrs
“this should get me attention”
sports writers are awful

Theo’s not going anywhere. He has 1 more year left on his contract. If the Sox fail again next year, Theo’s gone. Relax everyone, the Sox can’t possibly be any worse than they were this year.
paul_oneills_lovechild
The Sox won 90 games this year. They can definitely do worse. And, before you get Theo’s panties in a bunch…so can the Yankees. Now, a team like the Astros…there’s no where to go but up for them!
John DiRienzo
whenever i read your post, i can’t help but picture Stanley saying it
wickedkevin
I don’t get why “Boston’s brass” needs to comment on Theo and the Cubs. It only happens if they let it happen.
stadiumnut
As I have stated before, EVERYONE is responsible for the collapse. From John Henry, to Theo, to Tito and most of all the players… a shakeup is needed and it is a GOOD thing. Hey, the Yankees let Torre and Stengel go…. The Red Sox have to find a manager that will put some fire under the team. I honestly think there is a silver lining. Meaning that the Red Sox could just be pissed off enough next year to come out with a HUGE chip on their shoulder….. if that happens, watch out…. and all the gloom and doomers.. the Sox still have a VERY dangerous team. They need new blood and tweaking….
wickedkevin
All I read was “We should get Lou Pinella.”
jmcbosox
still uncertainty in the rotation…..throw an s-pile at CC?
angryredmenace
CC isn’t going anywhere. He will opt out to get a better deal and then the Yankees will make it rain on him like the last whore at happy hour. The saux simply can’t compete with the moneyboys of summer. There’s is no way the Yankees would ever let the saux out bid them, especially for CC, their only reliable starter.
John DiRienzo
they let them outbid them for CC last year.
different CC, but your point still remains false
chris mila
in all honesty i read something about this i wonder if they could try to talk torre out of retirement and would he be a good fit?
Harrison
what an offseason we are going to have.
start_wearing_purple
Has there ever been a trade of GM for players?
wickedkevin
Who performs that trade…?
start_wearing_purple
This is a chicken and the egg kind of question…

Cubs would throw in Zambrano, Soriano, or about half of their roster filled with dead and not moveable contracts.
That is a team cannot vision Epstein wanting to take over for that reason.. he tarts with the deck against him, unless Rickets would et him dump half the roster right off the bat and eat about 150m.
StanleyHudson
Theo for Garza………Let’s Make a Deal.
towney007
Until Sox brass lets Theo talk to someone or fire him, he’s going nowhere. This Epstein to the Cubs talk has gotta be the most painfully manufactured story from the media in eons. Now we’re going to trade him? The only people who seem to be in crisis mode is the Boston sports media, who are beyond hysterical at this point, even for them. They’ll bring in a new manager which makes sense, probably drop a few pieces, pick up a few. This team is still absurdly talented.
John DiRienzo
maybe we can trade Theo to the Mariners in a 3way trade with Felix going to the Yankees
i shouldn’t post it on the internet though, because the media’s head would explode, and i’d probably be listed as one of Buster Olney’s “outside sources”
notsureifsrs
boston sports media: there is no news at all, but we all have something urgent to report
start_wearing_purple
I think their slogan is “We feed paranoia to one of the world’s most superstitious fan bases.”
Fifty_Five
Theo should go to the Cubs for the sole purpose of possibly becoming that guy who broke TWO near century long curses.
bacboris
Wow, you come up with that? Amazing insight. Don’t hold back, you may put out a comment that only 3 billion people have said instead of everyone.
Fifty_Five
Hey thanks d ouchebag! Woops I just said another thing that 3 billion people have said to you
wickedkevin
Almost half the world hates him! Ha!
MaineSox
I never understood the point of doing this.
Sure that comment, or some variant of it, has been posted more times than I’d care to count — and definitely, it isn’t a new thought — but what is the point of behind being so derisive about it?
wickedkevin
Wow MaineSox, you think you’re the first person to spew that same logic on this site?! Jesus! I’ve seen as many people post this as have eaten at McDonalds!
MaineSox
Weak, you only accused me of doing something 2 billion people have done. At least I didn’t do something the same as 3 billion people, like that Fifty_Five guy did.
Lyndsay Thompson
wow. WOW. so the players are turning on the fans now? we’ll see who gets “Papi” chants next year, David.
wickedkevin
Someone else is going to get a “Papi” chant?
MaineSox
I think he’s saying that Boston fans deserved better
Lyndsay Thompson
yup, I read that as “you guys don’t deserve our awesomeness” not “you guys don’t deserve our shittiness” – oops!
notsureifsrs
woooooosh
John DiRienzo
andddd that’s the sound of Papi’s comments going right over OP’s head.
or did 3 billion people already come to that same conclusion?
Shawn
I’d gladly give Boston Carlos Zambrano and Alfonso Soriano for Theo. Such a deal.
BoSoXaddict
With their full salaries included? Deal.
Guest 6592
“In a second tweet, Rosenthal relays a thought from another GM: what could Epstein fetch in return from the Cubs after the White Sox netted two minor leaguers for Ozzie Guillen?”
…a kick in the sack from Zambrano and then you’re welcome to pass go. Final offer.

I’m wondering about our off-season moves. I just really hope we don’t waste payroll on a big bat to make a splash when our offence was potent even in September (something like 5 runs per game).
I’d make a run at CJ Wilson. If Beckett stays at this level (questionable) and Buchholz comes back strong, that’d be a really strong rotation. We have no chance on CC, so I don’t see why so many people here are calling to make a run at him.
I’m not worried about Crawford at least. I see him bouncing back. Give RF to Kalish or Reddick or something; doesn’t really matter.
I don’t think we should be giving Papelbon $12-$15 million when there are so many closers on the market.
Re-sign Papi for sure. He’s a fan favourite and he’s had a resurgent season (though who knows if he can keep it up).
Re-sign Bedard as well. I’d prefer him over Lackey.
Lyndsay Thompson
“our”? is that you, Mr. Cherington?
Cyyoung
Pull a Tampa let him walk, take the Picks. Paplebon only one to sign.
John DiRienzo
you really seem like you know what you’re doing.
