Remember Jocketty, don’t pay more than 5-6M for Coco. He is worth a top 50 draft pick if we don’t sign him.

They didnt offer his arbitration, so he doesnt give a draft pick

When the new CBA was announced, they transferred a few players, including Cordero into “type B” prospects, and automatically gave the Reds a draft pick if another team signed him. They were exempted from offering Arbitration.

So I’ve just heard that Dave Sappelt was one of the guys sent to Chicago…absolutely friggin ridiculous. The only thing that makes this make any type of sense is if Marshall gets signed to an extension.
Lilly Trunnell
I can guarantee that Dave Sappelt will not amount to anything. He is too short and does not have enough power… he’s fast, but will strike out too much and not bat enough. He’ll be even worse than Stubbs. The Reds are going for 2012 and I admire this trade.

You can guarantee that? While you’re at it, throw me the Powerball numbers and I’ll not complain again.
I realize that moves had to be made, that “standing pat” like last year would lead to another disappointing season, but I just feel like a lot of this is a knee jerk reaction. Looting the farm system for one year of a left-handed setup man and a starter who, while he has potential, also has several question marks…I don’t know. I guess we’ll see what happens in April.

Latos has several question marks? I would take him over any available pitcher on the trade and free agent markets. I really wish the Reds wouldn’t have acquired him. It was a tough price to pay but Latos will not disappoint you.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m more than happy to have him and I agree that he was the best option, free agent or trade. I’d take him over Wilson any day. I just know that there are a few concerns about his maturity (he’s 24, that’s not exactly a surprise) and last year didn’t really look like his performance in ’10. There are always questions, regardless or who it is.

I also think you’re basing your judgment of Sappelt on the 100 or so PA’s he had for the Reds last year; that’s nowhere near long enough to “guarantee” that he’ll be a nobody.
Won’t hit enough? How about a .342/.395/.507 slash line across 3 minor league levels in ’10? .313/.377/.458 in 74 games with Louisville last year. .243 in just over 100 PA’s at the big league level is not that bad, not as a rookie.
Strikes out too much? 233 K’s in in 1781 PA’s in his minor league career; not even in the same zip code as Drew Stubbs.
And as far as your power argument…he doesn’t NEED power. I see him as a leadoff or a 2 hole hitter, you don’t need to be able to hit the ball 500 feet to be effective there. Ask Ichiro. Guy’s made a living out of it.

They said the exact same things about Dustin Pedroia
