Giants fans, eh, not so much.
Orlando Cabrera County
Bummer.
NYBravosFan10
Always liked him alot. He’s a fun energetic player and a blast to watch play. Have a good retirement O-Cab!!
leachim2
Congrats Orlando.
God's Other Son
I HATED this guy when he played against the Mets.
Usually, that’s the sign of someone I would have LOVED to see wearing a Mets jersey.
Hope he enjoys his retirement. 🙂

Loved him in Cincinnati. Great career, great guy.

2.8 Million per WAR. Not bad.
brocnessmonster
Yeah, I was just wondering about a stat column with $/win above replacement player.

I know this is stupid, but one of my favorite parts of his career was this past season when he was playing second, Asdrubal Cabrera was playing short, and Miguel Cabrera hit a double. This was followed by a mound visit and Orlando and Asdrubal both walked to second base. The camera to their backs then zoomed in to show each of their jerseys reading ‘Cabrera.’ Awesome.

Okay. I just typed an entire story involving him and disqus caught it because I started it with ‘I know this is a st(u)pid story, but…’ Seriously? We are not allowed to use the word st(u)pid? I tryed it with d(u)mb as well and it didn’t work.

SOPA attacks MLBTR

I’m sorry but the policing of this website is getting crazy. I get the no swearing rule on account of kids reading this, but the word ‘st(u)pid’ and ‘d(u)mb?’

Oh God, my innocent eyes are burning at the vulgarity!

Also the first position player to play for every division in the league; 2nd to ever do so (Matt Herges was the first).
I also remember him well for his comments after the 2004 trade (paraphrased): “Oh man, I got traded for Nomar? I think I’m good, but not that good!”
Bonesaw McGraw
Doug Mientkiewicz said that, not Cabrera.
So I wouldn’t call it remembering “well.”

I was looking at the similar batters stat on Baseball Reference and thought it was pretty cool that he was compared to Pee Wee Reese. He was fun to watch and he’ll definitely be missed in the game. Enjoy retirement Orlando.
jwsox
officials scorers around the league just all sighed at the same time

Hurray!

About $3MM per win. Makes wonder if we could get a stat that shows value, $/win above replacenent. Would ve interesting to look at.

Brian sabean is crushed.

I won’t soon forget his game tying HR in Game 163 in 2009 vs. the Tigers in the Metrodome. It was the loudest moment I have ever experienced at a sporting event. So loud that it literally damaged my ears and left them ringing until I went to sleep that night.

Had lunch a few times with OC at Houstons in Irvine, Ca. Great guy! Wish him the best after his career.
Dan Mazzaro
Irvine..whoop whoop
Ryan Aguirre
Seriously underrated player.. Not HOF level but the guy had D, swag, and clutch to his credit…. O C BABY
rashomon
Congrats Orlando. We’ll always have Game 163!

Critical piece to the 2004 team. Always was sad that the Red Sox never re-signed him and went with (ugh) Renteria instead. Hats off to you, Orlando.
Tyler 20
BUT then Renteria went to the braves and was pretty freakin’ solid
Devon Henry
Not OC!!!!!!

Lasted in the big leagues for over a decade, won a ring, and made 51mil. Sounds like he had a pretty sweet life so far, enjoy retirement.
Jeremy James
O.C was a good player, hope he enjoys retirement
Robert Hart
I really thought the Tigers would pick him up to platoon with Santiago at second…what a bummer 🙁
onlysfrepub
His time with the Giants last year was memorable. I really enjoyed the Orlando Cabrera Bobble-Glove nights.
Brian J Malenke
My favorite memory of O-Cab was helping the Twins win the Central Division in game 163 the year he played with the club. After the game, he went nuts – bowing to the crowd and running around the stadium having a great time! That was fun to see!
$1742854
Agreed, O Cab was a great spark plug for that improbable run to the AL Central title.

no more cabrera-renteria fights? Thats a shame, they made for a good ol Colombian rivalry.

Forever will be remembered for getting traded with Nomar
