wow. i didn’t know about the “no arbitration clause”. not a big deal since he is 26, but hopefully Soler doesn’t try to get the same thing.
Otis26
Assuming he’s really 26.

“Pitchers are catchers are due to report Saturday, while the full squad reports February 24th”.
Pitchers are also catchers now? Is this part of the new CBA?

and they’re all better than jeff mathis

“Unless he’s a demigod come down from the heavens”
I take it Coco didn’t watch the promotional video?
notsureifsrs

Gotta love coco’s resolve to stick in center, dude is still awesome
an outfield with coco, cespedes, and reddick, no matter where you put them, is gonna be one fine defensive outfield. add to that if they reach their offensive potential (with cespedes and reddick, obviously it’s not a SURE thing to happen).

that quote reminded me how awesome Coco is.

It baffles me that so many loyal A’s fans cannot grasp the inherent method in Beane’s “madness.” He signs a fabulously talented Cuban FA, nobody would have guessed would land in Oakland, and all they do is whine about playing time for failed AAAA stiffs like Chris Carter, Kila and to a lesser extent, Mike Taylor.
Beane said he was rebuilding for the time when their new stadium in San Jose opens; and, indeed he is. But, he did NOT say he was going to accept a 50-win team for the next 4 seasons.
So, he rebuilds the outfield with Reddick, Smith and Cowgill; resigns Coco, signs the most sought after foreign FA outside of Yu Darvish AND rebuilds the farm system—all in a single off-season. C’mon guys, wake up and enjoy the ride!

Thank you

I’m excited.. I’m just hoping he trades an outfielder and a first baseman for a decent third baseman…
Snoochies8
scott sizemore was pretty decent last year for learning the position on a whim.
i’m hoping another reliever/spot starter

The link to the Olney article appears to be the wrong one…

What’s going to happen to Gomes, Cowgill, and Seth Smith? So long for their platoon… I agree that Coco, Cespedes and Reddick being starters…
Also the abundance of DH and 1st baseman… Who knows what’s going to happen? I’ll be at Opening Day in Oakland… Can’t wait
Snoochies8
i think now smith and gomes are going to platoon at DH
chico65
More cowgill?

Where does Coco come off saying this? I mean sure it’s true but I just can’t stand a cocky ball player

I’m surprised that Slusser writes that this signing essentially takes the A’s out of the Soler sweep stakes. I don’t necessarily agree. Of course her sources say this, but who knows. The A’s could be investing in IFA because FA don’t want to play in Oakland.

Just wanted to pop in to say how much I enjoy reading the comments sections on the MLBTR A’s page. It’s refreshing to see none of the typical knee jerk angry chatter that you see on the ESPN or SF Chronicle pages (e.g., “Billy will just trade the best players for prospects so who cares??” or “Oakland is a dump!” or “the AAA’s are gonna be terrible”) and there’s very little if any showboating or puns that you see all over FreeKraut and AN. Thanks to everyone here for the interesting discussions.

A’s should trade all four players out of options to Yankees for Swisher and Burnett

Manny Ramirez may not be a good fit in Oakland A’s uniform but would be valuable w/ the Seattle Mariners if they are interested in signing him. Will be interesting should Manny signing w/ Mariners and play the A’s in Japan to start the season and come to Oakland as fans may be booing at him when he comes up to bat. He sure can help them more to compete in the division this season since Safeco Field would be an ideal place to hit home runs.
