They didn’t trade him as much as sold him. When considering that, the two teams have never completed a trade.

Well Boston wouldn’t want Nova anyway. The kid blows. Funnily enough, despite how bad their pitching staff has been, he wouldn’t have been an improvement.

As bad as Nova has been, no Boston starter has a higher WAR than him as of now. Beckett is tied with him, but Nova (0.3) has a better WAR than all other Boston starters
Bucholz: -1.5
Lester: 0.1
Doubront: 0.2
Bard: -0.1
However I am not saying I’d take Nova over all of them (or any of them for that matter, maybe Doubront and Buccholz though).
Things will change and I surely don’t expect him to finish with a higher WAR than Lester.

Any team would be foolish to pas up on a guy who even becomes a borderline major leaguer because the fact is that the overwhelming majority of guys don’t even come anywhere close to that level of success.

Yeah. SO you say Cook is better than Nova?

Or Buccholz for that matter (well I mean this year of course)

I would love to see the O’s sign Oswalt and trade for another arm. Britton if his rehab goes well will replace Hunter who will go to the pen and replace Eveland. Matusz and Arrieta need to have a fire lit underneath them and the last one standing stays in the big leagues the other sent to AAA. I’d love to see the O’s find a package for Greinkie to replace the arm that goes on the DL (probably Hammel who’s knee is all messed up right now). Will any of this happen… probably not but its fun to dream.

trading for Greinke would be silly. first of all, it’s still extremely unlikely that the O’s will seriously be in contention approaching the trade deadline (I’m a Baltimore fan btw). second, even if they somehow are, what are the chances they’ll a) stay in contention and b) actually perform well in the playoffs? Greinke would be a 1/2 year rental, and to make a deal like that worthwhile, you have to be close enough to a championship that you think signing him would put you over the top.
not to mention, do we even have enough prospects to make this deal work? Machado and Bundy are untouchable. who else do we have? sell low on Schoop? Avery? maybe Arrieta or Britton will be valuable at that point, but if they’re pitching well, why not just keep them?

The Orioles losing a waiver claim because they have a better record than the other claiming team? That has to be a first in O’s history…

The sad part? I can actually see it being the first time post-Ripken.
Infield Fly
That has to be a first in O’s history…
A first in recent history, sure, but not likely overall. It may have been quite a while ago but the Orioles do have a history of championship caliber teams until the early 80’s.

More like every other team
